There are plenty of models for propoganda, and the Nazi party is still not a good parallel for Thompson.

Just because you disagree with his views, that does not make him a Nazi. One can argue that you are closer to the Nazi here, because you insinuate anyone who disagrees with you is the equivalent of a genocidal fuck.

See that's the thing with free speech. You don't want him to censor anything, but you are more than willing to use propanda to fight him, all while claiming to hate propoganda.

How do you propose we educate the ignorant?

Let's say Aunt Betty Mae is watching the news and hears that there is a very bad videogame from a trusted lawyer on the news. You say the videogame isn't bad. Who is she going to listen to?

If she is a consumer who knows anything about videogames, then she probably has heard very favorable reviews about Oblivion. If she is not a consumer, then she probably thinks poorly of Oblivion.

The only danger her is if she stand behind Clinton and pushes for legislation. The only people I'm worried about educating are those in office.

I haven't seen the texture myself. I've heard the opposite, that it did not include nipples, but that 3rd party mods add nipples. I've also heard Bethesda claim the purpose of the topless nude texture was to help modders develop certain garments.

Either way I still don't care for the precedent of rating games based on what can be accomplished by a third-party mod.

Should every single XBox Live capable game be rated Adult's Only because of the language you're going to hear when playing online?

In the American playground, the almight dollar speaks loudest. If the media truly believes that we care what he has to say, he will always have a television appearance waiting for him.

As consumers we can opt not to pick up newspapers, magazines and the like that have him blasting his usual rhetoric on their pages.

And frankly, those that are likely to listen to him and believe him are those that already made up their minds. Screaming at Thompson himself is not likely to change his mind, or anyone else's sadly. I'm not too worried. The game industry is blossoming, and the majority of gamers are adults.

I read both ESRB statements. The first one said it was due solely to violence, and not the nudity. Except Bethesda came back with a 60-page report demonstrating that they clearly explained to the ESRB EXACTLY how violent the game would be.

The ESRB's response to that was nudity was the real issue. So which is it?

Actually it is a fair parallel to Hot Coffee. The content shipped on the disc, but the content isn't a sex scene. The content is a nude-colored texture for female characters. However, this horribly offensive nude "patch" doesn't even have nipples. The odd thing is that you can't access it on the 360, but the 360 version is being rerated and ripped off the shelves. So no nipple, and not even in the 360, but the 360 is being rated for having nudity. Thank God for the ESRB to protect me!

  16. ESRB Lied - Flat Out on More Oblivion Re-Rating Fallout · · Score: 1

First they say the new rating is due to violence, and now they say it is due to the nudity. The odd thing is that the nudity (which doesn't even have nipples) is not available by any means on the 360 copies of the game, and yet the 360 copies are being pulled off store shelves. Which is it?

No console has ever been successful in the history of mankind launching for more than $300. Technically, there is a $300 version of the 360, even if it is gimped.

I don't think Sony is stupid enough to launch a $500+ console. It will not happen. Sony does in fact want to win the media war, so the PS3 will launch at $400, though they might have a $500 bundle.

Sony has also gone on record of saying that won't force region encoding which is a plus.

You may not see a benefit, but if for absolutely not other reason, I'm all for a new disc that can allow 200 gigs of storage. That alone interests me.

Having a picture at 4 times the resolution while watching movies is a HUGE jump. And while DVDs allowed for a great deal of new features like branching video and such, creative studios can use the increased storage capacity to add even new features to movies.

And you may say that next-gen games don't look impressive, but all the PS3 footage we've seen is been so impressive that no one believes it is real. We'll find out more in a week with the next E3.

Bull fucking shit. All these comparisons of our government to absolutely horrid toltarian governments are completely out of line. Nazi Germany is responsible for genocide of millions and millions of people. When the US has commited truly comparable crimes, then draw the comparison. Right now as much as most everyone hates Bush (myself included) the actual truth is that we haven't really lost that many civil liberties. Don't believe me, then please do some research and try to call me on it. People talk about the Patriot Act all day long, but no one reads it. Many of the horror stories stem from two places. 1 - Lies. The student who claimed Homeland Security was all over him for requesting a book was fabricated, yet the story is widespread and believed. No one fact checks. Political propoganda has replaced truth. That is pretty dangerous. 2 - Bad judges. There are honest to goodness cases of abuse of the system, but they don't stem from the Patriot Act being bad on the whole. They stem from individuals behind the bench making bad calls. I won't argue that Congress doesn't abuse the Constitution. They've been doing that for ages. Anyone recall the Telecommunications Decency Act of 1995? They threw the 1st Ammendment straight out the window. However, in the face of terrorism, England straight up told its citizens that personal rights take second priority to national security. Blair backed up cops shooting suspected terrorists on sight with little to no proof. Russia in the wake of terrorism did roll back civil liberties 50 years. Freedom of speech does not exist there. In the US you have the freedom of speech. You can call the US Nazi Germany. No one is throwing you in jail for not being a patriot. However, you disrespect the fact that your civil liberties remain MOSTLY in tact. Futhermore, your uncalled for hyperbole disrespects the MILLIONS of lives lost in far greater tragedy. Making light of the death of millions to draw incorrect political parallels is just bad form and frankly you should be ashamed.

I'm all for a new media format that allows for greater storage of data. No one complained that Sony pushed the DVD format with PS2, so I don't understand why everyone is up in arms about Blu-Ray. Getting a cheap hi-def player bundled with a great gaming console is a GOOD thing. And in case you missed it, if you go HD-DVD you may not get a HD picture because the player can opt to downsample to a lower resolution. The best part is how the backers of HD-DVD said, "well consumers probably won't even notice that it is at a lower resolution." Excuse the fuck me? Why pay $1,500 for a HD player and not get HD resolutions? I can get a $30 DVD player. That my friend, is evil.

Competition can be a good thing. If Sony never took their money from other divisions and entered the console race, we'd never had the PS1, PS2 or PS3.

I do very much hold to the seperate division theories. For instance, Microsoft has some pretty fucked up divisions, and releases plenty of really bad products. Some of their products are actually pretty good.

I don't buy any music from Sony, but I'm definitely preordering a PS3.
