Directory Access determines which directory services a Mac OS X computer uses and how it connects to specific directory domains. Directory Access determines how the computer discovers network services. Directory Access also defines search policies for finding authentication and contacts information in specific directory domains.

"Genetic engineering is hard work. Just as mechanical engineers build prototypes to test their ideas before going into full-scale production, so do genetic engineers (and, actually, every other type of engineer I can think of.) "
the starange thing though is as the article says that the burden falls on the shareholders. So if the company reports no net income (profit) to the IRS, then why do they they show a huge profit to the shareholders in the prospectus.
Accountants have a knack for creating figures that look the best to whomever they are presenting them to.
gov't numbers: oh we didn't make any profit
shareholder numbers: boy did strike it rich this year.
Yeah, i'd have to agree that a good attitude rises above all the name calling. it seems the troll police have got their panties in a wad. seriously, since when does being anal and condesending seem like a better choice then being a troll. at least there is some solidarity in being a troll.
relax. exhale. don't get so mad if you don't agree with someone. you'll live longer.
I really don't understand why you think linux doesn't have 20,000 "potentially real problems" If you count up every bug in every driver distributed with redhat you would get a huge number. how may linux laptop driver bugs are there?
if this same article were written about linux you would be agasp. Be objective and hold all reporting on software systems to the same high standards.
This isn't about linux vs. windows. Its just a poorly written article based on exaggeration.
half of the "bugs" are areas of the program that can be improved or made more effeicient. If you've ever written code for an interactice application then you know that almost everything has room for improvement.
announcing this as 63,000 bugs smells like FUD to me.
windows 2000 may need alot of work, but this article is rediculous.
Linux would not have come so far without packaging it with all the GNU tools. So a non-free Linux kernal = a non useful operating system. GNU software is a huge part of Linux and it is all free regardless of the Linux kernal.
Not to mention FreeBSD. The movement is bigger then Linux. Linux was just a good kernel, that wouldn't have been as good if it wasn't OpenSource.
So linux rocks, but wouldn't be if it wasn't OpenSorce.
I have had the pleasure of setting up lots of different computers for people. One thing i noticed is that when i set my mother up with an imac, she had trouble finding people who had used macs often enough to help her out. me included.
I couldn't walk her step by step through the menus from memory, as she was getting started. I could merely say things like, "i know that there is a monitors and sound button, i think its in the apple menu somewhere." This is especailly important because i ended up explaining things over the phone or icq. So if your gonna support an OS for a newbie, make sure you know it by heart or have a machine you can poke around on to figure it out yourself.
anyhow, i use linux for my business, and the entry level techs take alot longer to get a copy of linux up and running, then they do to get NT up and running. Much to my disappointment.
lay off the janitors!

well, except software engineers!

saying that LLCs are inherently more prone then corporations to being out for easy profit is absurd.
we thought the same thing, but in running mod_ssl found that it has conflicts with IE 5.0 on windows and Mac. It is a bug in IE5's implemetation.
Still Apache-SSL still works regardless of the bug, wheras Mod_ssl doesn't.

I have a 350 Mhz G4 and a 800 Mhz PIII. I love them both. they were pretty darn close in price. the PIII seems faster to me.
I don't have any benchmarks to show but I don't believe the above claims. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
G4s may kick ass compared to PIIIs with similar Mhz ratings, but I think apple's claims are a little overzealous with all the 2x as fast stuff.
Maybe OSX will help. I am eagerly awaiting.

Well, it seems a step forward has been taken, since news places seem willing to listen to criticism, and even take down articles.
hahahah, it must be hell to be barated by a bunch of really annoyed computer geeks. go email power.
Well, we are installing it here. it uses debian packages like all of our servers, so it makes a better choice then redhat for us for the desktop.
Open source financial software. Its still in the early stages, but this is a huge component of open source e-commerce.
