    the problem is not the BASIC is missing, but there is no reason to code anymore for them, they want to play games and there is a lot of games available.

    in the old days not only we had BASIC, but eh, that's all we had to play with. that's why we played with it, we were force to it.

    if the computer industry has changed, then the parents has to pick up the job. and force them to learn programming.

    or buy them a 286 for his birthday, see what they will come up with.

    for recent computers, I would suggest throwing them at irb (interactive ruby).

    its easy and its shipped with ruby for all plateforms. you can start by helping them with math homeworks using irb instead of the calculator, the will quickly discover a whole new world.

    i dont understand what a famous and SoCool(tm) company like SGI can't figure it out.

    I think they should start a Linux line of CGI laptop and desktop. something very cool ThatWorks(tm).

    the market ain't to the server market anymore, servers just runs whatever people runs.

    i would really buy a SGI/KDE/laptop with all corners polished out.

    this is nothing true in there...

    You can install Tiger on a G3 just fine, ever tried installing XP on a 300MHZ ? yes Apple's code is probably much cleaner. but its not the world that has made the job easier for them. but them that has chosen to make their own life easier. in fact, the world are making their life harder with their smaller market share.

    windows code base is not bigger because of backward compatibility... it is because programmers are lost in this huge code and they are scared to delete code. they should port Windows to Trolltech Qt. I would definitely help. They should just shut all their attempts at APIs.

    all J#, J++, VB, .NET, they all sucked one after the other.

    I made this software mainly thinking of personal and household budgets, really not for a business. however you can still enter your evaluated spendings/incomes with dates in there.

    it may at least tell you if you spend too much ;)

    It's not like starting from scratch, I could probably add some feature to help you in your quest.

    usually, Mac OS X, run on darwin, so if you install darwin on x86, and run MacOSX using PearPC, its pretty much the same.

    Hi
    we use Promise Fastrack with two 40gb harddrive on a RAID 1 array and we are fully satisfied.

    no particular slowdown, maybe except at installation time. but i've install the OS on a single drive and then create the array.

    i've not been able to install lilo on the array. i still boot on a floppy disk :(
    (any help here will be much appreciated.)

    Hi,
    Does purist can still love linux in 21 century ?
    After coreljoking, redhatmachination and others *underproducts*, does slackware, even if 7.0 come with 2.2 kernel and lot more new stuff, stay different than others and new linux distribution ?

    Linux seems to come Win2Kv2.2, and BSD is the only alternative for purist to get a real, free and powerful OS.

    So, I'm sad.
