The main argument people seem to use against.Net is always that it is not free/patent encumbered (see the grandparent comment). My point is that Java is just as bad, if not worse, so using that as an argument for Java is silly and baseless.
Aside from that, you can't really compare the JBoss/Tomcat servlet containers to.Net because it is comparing apples and oranges, the.Net model for that type of service is quite different. While Java doe shave some advantages,.Net has its own as well, and I must say i really do not like some of the avenues Java is going down with stuff like templates.

The technology exists such that they could in theory make this thing only operate when pysically attached to the body ( say, powered off of blood or bloodflow ), and only operate when in contact with his specific blood type.
So to use it, a perpetraitor would have to a) Kidnap him, b ) cut off his arm, c) surgically graft the thing into someone else with the same blood type.
Hopefully by that point they'd have de-activated his chip.
I imagine in a few years we'd even be able to make these things DNA specific.
There happens to be a plentitude of client applications on a standard XP box with buffer overflow possibilities. Once you're there, go anywhere you want with the privileges of the user on the XP box (which is usually admin, and if not, you can usually get admin without a lot of effort).
This is even further mitigated in MSN, since an MSN message can only contain around 1600 characters... when you take into account the URL encoding required to send any usefull bytes into the overflow, you've only got around 500 bytes to work with for your exploit to run.

Yes you'd have to sacrifice video resolution and audio quality, but not to any major degree. I think you're setting your standards too high
My standard is set at DVD quality. If I am paying near DVD prives then I would expect DVD quality or higher. Anything less would not be acceptable.
And the audio quality could defintly not be sacrificed.. if I am buying a move in *anY8 format nowasays I would expect a Dolby Digital track on it.

Since a season of a show is 20 some dollars on DVD, it should be more than reasonable to be able to buy a single episode of a show for a dollar.
