Basically, I can live with loading J# and hitting compile once for each of my Java projects. If it's any more hassle than that, I agree, it's not worth my while.

If you're going to be doing this kind o stuff, whats the point in using Java / .Net AT ALL?? If you're going to have to re-compile for seperate platforms, Java has lost its prime benefit. Personally, if I'm going to be re-building anyway, I'm going to use a faster solution, like C or C++.

I partialy agree wit this, but I would never base any application of mine on something as incomplete as MySQL (I too use PostgreSQL). Why do you ask? Simple. Who knows how large your project will get, or what substantial new features you will want to incorperate in the future. You may never need locking, but subqueries? C'mon, that is basic stuff. Sure you can get around needing them, but its a big pain in the butt and ends up being much moe inefficient. This is why I alays stick with the best product first, to leave my opions open, and won't have to re-do everything from scratch when I switch from MySQL (non SQL-92 standard) to any other DB.

As i just said, you can install fonts form ANY folder, including a floppy. So you can dl fonts from the internet and then install them. It's no different than in windows where you dl them and then copy them into the fonts folder.

As for the quality, I use all my windows TTF fonts in linux, and they look EXACTLY the same as in windows. Fonts are pretty much conquered. The next step toward the desktop is the ability to install windows printer drivers in linux (since there are so many winprinters nowadays). I think that the wine team and the CUPS team should work together to impliment a windos printer API wrapper laayer or some sort, so you can use any windows printer drivers in linux.

What you just said supports my arguement fully. What are you talking about? I never said anything about going to MORE conerts, I'm trying to point out that the concert scene isn't dying, as you seem to think, its changing... More jumbo-blockbuster-teeny-pop concerts, that make tons of money.

Are you trying to tell me that if the FBI/etc is given the right to snoop email servers to see to whom you are talking, they're NOT going to keep scrolling down the page to read the actual email??? (Wait, avert your eyes, we can't keep reading this!) Yeah right.

In this day and age, with snail mail being used less and less every day, we NEED the same protections put in place on email as we have on regular mail. I know, some say sending unencrypted email should be taken more like sending a postcard than a sealed envelope. Fine. Then special protection should be given to encrypted email only, but if that was the case, you would have to be required to fork over your key upon the presentation of a warant, so that the authorities could have the same options as they do with regular mail. To do / expect otherwise is foolhardy.

The only difference between prepackaged versions is they wrap the JAR file in an executable launcher for that platform ( A .EXE for Windows, ELF for Linux, etc.)
