It would be nice to have it looked into. I'd actually like to see SlashDot run some quick stats on the up-mod/down-mod ratio for the various topics. I have a feeling the Apple stories would have an even lower ratio than game console stories.
The actual signal is amplified across most frequencies by an obscure side effect of the reality distortion field. If you were an Apple antenna engineer you'd know that.
Will the other browsers be able to do the same easily (and for other operating systems), or are there only Windows drivers available for much of this hardware? Many of the graphics cards around now under Linux seem to be only partially supported under Linux, and many of the drivers that do have hardware acceleration seem flaky/leaky.
There is software development as a craft, and computer science as... well, a science. Both are useful and required, and both are very different. I would think the people who have been taught the computer science would be less likely to reinvent something, which is good, bit also bad. trying new things is how we get... new things. It goes without saying that 99.9% of the time the re-invention that untrained people do is absolute inefficient crap, but every once in a while it will be innovative.
The craftsmanship part of coding is hard to teach, and I think a good percentage of the people at 'lower' education levels will be at least as good as those with Ph.Ds. Some of the best coders I've known (in the areas of readability and maintainability) have been largely self-taught. You just need to make sure they get exposed to the science part of software development as they learn.
My phones and microwave don't tend to cause problems, but my Aspire One netbook will shut off an XBox360 controller when I do a file transfer. Could be a flaw in the design or in the build.
not all offer the minimum levels of security that we require while others may not perform well with our site
- but they'll still be supporting IE6. Where the hell are they getting their security information from? I can see still supporting it purely because of the sheer numbers of nutbars still using it, but to mention security when talking about any other browser?
Too easy to block as well. Simple ear protection would do it. This would require a complete tinfoil outfit. There could be a bright future for some entrepreneurial SlashDotters.
Sorry, what I meant (and mis-typed) was "Shouldn't you only have to address one of the claims to invalidate the patent". I think you mostly answered it anyway.
The nice solution would be making the behaviour optionally selectable as part of the marketplace. YOU choose whether you want them to remove the software from your phone or not. I'd prefer the default to be "no", but either way would work.
It was pretty cool. We're not used to anything that big here... it's enough to stir up a little excitement without causing much real damage. I have friends that live in the mountains in northern Mexico, and I'm guessing that they'll be laughing at all the concern.

I know TRIM doesn't work yet in OS X but the drive seems to take care of itself just fine.
That's because like the iPad, OS X is magical.

The bad part is that now I have the voice of that machine stuck in my head, doing its strange variations on the word. Also, I need coffee.

TSocks may be the application you're looking for. I haven't gone through the setup of it yet but it looks like it will tunnel any traffic through ssh.
That corporate manageability is really the only thing that has been missing from firefox.
Conversley, that's really the only thing that IE6 has going for it. There needs to be a little balance in priorities.
He'd better learn. On some occasion in the future, he'll need to interface with someone else's code.

not aware that Cicso has ANY deep user interaction / UI design and implementation skills in house
People have been known to buy design skills on occasion. There are lots of design firms out there, the trick is finding a truly talented one.

considering the time it's unlikely.
Microwave popcorn.
if he was going for a big cock on his forhead, maybe $60
Crap. I got completely ripped off on mine.
Anything that gives us more unemployed lawyers and fewer unemployed engineers is a step forward.
Just that is enough. That alone is enough in some cases to even outweigh some disadvantages.
Pffffft. Antineutrinos have been dieting for bikini weather. Try the experiment again in the winter.

Nobody wants a BBC-only internet tv.
Sounds like the BBC does (or certainly doesn't mind).

So, most likely some new sort of Marketing Weasel / Lawyer cross-breed. Lets all hope they're sterile. FSM help us if these things start reproducing.

A HTC Diamond has a pixel density of 286 ppi and it's over 2 years old. I'm amazed at the kind of media attention Apple's marketing achieves.
