Yeah, I really shouldn't have said that about Wii being like the last gen. Didn't really mean it the way it came out. I agree with everything you said if fact your saying this: Also, the Nintendo processing power should be able to handle these things just fine anyway especially for now. The processing power of 360 and PS3 is slightly overkill for current games and the biggest boost they are getting and needing now is the graphics processing. actually is much more the point I meant to make.
Upon release of the Wii, I don't think there will be a hugely noticable difference (yes probably some but nothing that will really effect your perception of the game). My worry is that with the extra power head-room in the other systems, by Christmas 2008-2009 the games we see coming for the other two systems may begin to make the Wii games look a little "last gen".
I shouldn't even say "worry", because I think we all agree Nintendo will continue to put out some great games that make us forget about the difference in performance but I could end up being a little envious of the other systems in some ways. If the Wii controller is a huge hit MS or some third party (anything will probably be better than the PS3 rushed version) will put out a similar control to the Wii for the other systems and the games will be updated to support the controller via the online components. However, there won't be much you can do to add more power to the system after the fact to support the games that will be coming in a few years.
Again, I'm excited about the Wii and hope to get one ASAP but I'm a bit worried about how it will stand up to the other consoles over time. In a lot of ways I think Nintendo's design makes a TON of sense right now, I'm just worried what the long term implications are. Guess that will be a worry for E3 2008, I should just enjoy what I'm seeing now for the time being;-)
Nintendo really made it easy to choose which next gen to invest in.
While I plan to get the Wii to checkout the new controller (and some of thier exclusive games), I wouldn't really call Wii a "next-gen" console. Its basically an original Xbox or PS2 with a cool new controller. Looks to have some great games and possibly some awsome new gameplay possibilities with the controller, but at least not "next-gen" the way I think of it.
Now I know lots of people are all "I don't need that eye candy" and I'd agree with that, but it sure is nice. But the thing to remember is the power of the 360 and presumably the PS3 (but thats off the list for pricing related to try to force Blu-ray on its customers) doesn't just provide "eye candy". That power also allows better AI, better physics, etc, etc, etc.
The reason I love gaming is because the emersive elements of it and that is mostly due to storyline (which all can do) and realisim (AI, physics, etc, etc... yes including the evil "eye candy"). While I have great hopes for the Wii and its controller, I've never found the I/O device to a game to have too much of an impact on my enjoyment. Be it mouse/keyboard, dual-shock, joystick, etc, etc. Its always been the story and realisim that makes me enjoy games.
the PlayStation 3 is priced for consumers, who are getting a lot for their money wither they want it or not.
Hey, I'm all for bundling if it helps to bring down the price on all the stuff you want but I couldn't care less about getting a Blu-Ray player and I don't want to have it shoved down my thought for an extra couple hundred bucks. I know, I know! Nobody is forcing me to buy one... and I won't. Had they made Blu-Ray an optional extra and knocked the base price down a couple hundred bucks I'd be all for it, but I'm not going to pay for something I don't want just so Sony can win the next-gen DRM battle!
No it doesn't;-) Like I said, I guess I really am a Halo junkie;-) I've always loved the story of Halo and REALLY enjoyed the first two games. 1st I liked a lot better because 2 was just to short, even though I'm apparently one of the few who LOVED the dual story lines playing as both Master Chief and the Arbitor (and I really hope they keep that). This teaser didn't show much but what they did show I thought was great in that it immediately took me back to my enjoyment of the first ones (even though I thought I was over it) and left me aching for more. Did I just say "aching"? Sounds like I have a sexual relationship with my gaming (don't tell my wife);-)
Anyway, I thought GRAW was kind of the first next-gen graphics I'd seen, but this seems to even be better. Of course have to wait and see how it all turns out, but it certianly worked in getting my excited about Halo again.
OK I really thought I was over the whole Halo thing and was MUCH more looking forward to info about Too Human, but DAMN! For a teaser trailer all real-time generated in the actual game, that was pretty cool! OK so maybe I am still a Halo junkie and have just been in denial 'cause I REALLY cannot wait for that game!
Yeah, seems to be a misunderstanding. GTA4 will be released to both platforms, but RockStar and MS have an exclusive agreement where additional espisodes will be released exclusivly via Xbox Live if I understood the conferences correctly.
Sounds like the new GTA will actually be for both the 360 and PS3, but extra GTA episodes will be availiable exclusivly through XBox Live. So the original game will be for both but there will be extra content exclusive to the 360. Stay tuned for more details folks, but the MS conferance.... well all I can say is.... WOW!
No need, they've already done it for him. In exchange for this service he gives them a little money. Its Win-Win. Now if someone else wants to provide the same quality service for free, I'm sure he'd be happy to accept it.
I had a similar idea but without paying for any trial.
Surely Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc can identify trafic originating from that ISP via IP addresses. When anyone trys to access your page from one of those ISP, redirect them to a page explaining that the ISP is holding back bandwidth to this site so your expierence may be slower than it should be. Then provide information about competing ISPs in the area which don't do this as well as contact information to the ISP to complain. Then after 5 seconds or something you are redirected to the actual page.
Yes, this will probably annoy users but I think that annoyance will mostly be focused toward the ISP. Then the market can sort out if its worth it to implement this.
Sure you can pay more than $399 for the full system if you look around enough and really want to, or just head to BestBuy (or really anywhere else) and just pay $399 if you want. Your choice. Then the games range from $40 to $60 so previous poster saying you can buy the full 360 plus 3-4 games for the price of the full PS3 seems spot on to me.
The 360 has an xbox emulator now? Wow.. have to look out for that.
This functionality has been available since launch. I think there were like 200 original XBox games playable on the 360 at launch. Anyway, here is the current list of original games playable on the 360.
you're violating when you write a plugin for Office.
Not that Office invented the concept of plug-ins, but it probably is one of the most used targets for plug-ins there is. From CRM systems, advanced securities pricing models, Adobe Acrobat, etc, etc, etc, etc. There are TONs of plug-ins and MS explicitly built thier framework to encourage this.
Isn't that pretty much what the whole Open Doc format debate was about after all? While there may be technical ways to get through Microsoft's bullshit formats, the patent threats may make it illegal to do so.
Not an issue in this case. Just like Adobe's plug-ins which can convert and Office documents to thier format, this plug-in I'm sure won't even bother messing with the raw binary data. Just open the document in the Office application and then each application exposes a friendly API to be able to play with, convert, ect, etc the document all you want. No need to even consider the underlieing documents format (in fact would be quite silly to) just use the API provided.
It'll be the game developers who will decide if gamers are "forced" to upgrade to Vista not MS. DirectX10 is just a new tool MS is providing to game developers. It will be up to the developers to make a business decision if the new tool offers enough performance gains, ease of use, new functionality, etc to make forcing an upgrade to Vista worth while. If game developers choose to write games for older versions of DirectX, they will still play fine on Vista.
DirectX10 which will ship with Vista is supposed to add some features but mostly make big improvements in simplicity and performance of the DirectX engine for game developers. I'm not a game developer though so cannot say if in reality its the best thing since sliced bread, a bunch of hot air, or somewhere in between.
I think he understands that, your just missing the rule:
a. Speed
b. Precision
c. Low Cost
You can pick two but cannot have all three. From what they've been spending, it seems obvious they choose the first two. I more or less think they done a good job of it (except let me download from the marketplace in the background while I'm watching TV!!!!!) I use my 360 as a Media Center Extender to watch TV, movies, internet radio, etc, etc but the damn thing cannot yet begin a download from XBox live and keep that going in the background while I switch to the media center to watch TV! Really my only complaint, but VERY annoying.
1) System builders (Dell, HP, etc) will decide what these users have as defaults. Microsoft already stated these builders are free to set this as they see fit, so the highest bidder will be default for these customers you are talking about.
2) IE7 (at least my latest beta) doesn't default to MSN search. I'd previously setup IE6 to use google for auto-search and IE7 used that settings as the default.
Agreed. And besides that, they will also be paying Dell, HP, etc, etc (unless Google wants to pay more). MS has already stated that system builders can set the default to whatever they want. So all the search engines will pay to automatically be listed and the one who pays the most to the system builders will be the default. Simple. Also, IE7 doesn't "default" to MSN search on an existing machine. I'd previously setup IE6 to use google for auto-search and when I installed the latest IE7 beta, google was the default. It plays very nicely and keeps your current settings. Really not seeing the issue here (besides its a MS product).
Be prepared to hear all about how the PS3 is OK because its made by a seperate division, but the XBox is still bad because that whole seperate division theory only applies to Sony.

It has nothing on Quake Wars in terms of fun teamplay.
Is this based on your hours hands on teamplay in this as of yet unreleased game or more "OMG!!! QW rocks!!! Everything else SUX!!!"?
But it has pistols too. Imagine how awsome it would be if there was a controler which had a trigger! Oh wait.... nevermind.

Yeah, sounds like the core game is for both but..
"Microsoft and Rockstar have entered into an exclusive deal to privide episodic content via Xbox Live Marketplace."
so additional content will be only available on the 360 if I understand this correctly.

Dude, no matter how many times you repeat that it isn't going to be true!
Core system = $299. Full system $399.
If you want to pay some scalpers bumped up price thats fine, but the 360s retail price (which can be found most places now) are $299 and $399. Its not hard to find accurate information! How long did you have to look around to find these marked up prices? Why not just quote some Ebay auction selling them? In fact here you go: OMG!!!! 360s cost over $1,000 with just a few games!!!! What are they thinking?!?!?! Go buy a PS3 its cheaper!!!!!
Sure you can pay more than $399 for the full system if you look around enough and really want to, or just head to BestBuy (or really anywhere else) and just pay $399 if you want. Your choice.
