How difficult would the average Windows user have in installing WinCME from scratch.
MCE 2005 was a bit of a pain in the but to setup. Just a few days ago I moved to the Vista RC1 build for my media center and it really was as simple as anything I've installed. Detected all my cards automatically and installed correct drivers, hold one button for a few seconds and it recognized my remote (dish network), auto-detected my XBox360 as media center extender, etc. I was amazed at the improved ease of setup compared to previous versions.
My one complaint (well besides the Divx thing) is at least thus far the Vista version doesn't yet support the original Xbox as a media center extender.
1) Its an article about MythTV which doesn't even really mention MS Media Center except in one small table at the very end
2) The table mentioned above compares Myth against MCE 2004 not MCE 2005 which has been out forever, MCE 2005 R2 which has been out for some time, or Vista which is almost here.
Sorry, I think I misunderstood your original point. So the issue is, MS doesn't make a version of the Windows OS that runs on top of a GNU/Linux OS? I thought you were saying they aren't real application (like Office, VS which you originally mentioned) providers because those applications aren't cross platform.
I agree with your sentiment, but don't think thier not supporting GNU/Linux proves much. Certainly Intuit/Quicken is about marketing thier products, buy they don't support GNU/Linux either. If GNU/Linux gets enough market share where the vast majority of other software companies support it but MS doesn't then you would have a valid argument.
I think its just a new revenue rasing method for the EU
1) write to MS about possible issues that you may need to fine them another 1/4 billion for
2) MS responds with possible fixes for the issues as asks if these address the problem
3) EU says its not thier job to say if it addresses the problem or not, but they better just release it
4) ??????
5) Profit!!!!
that there is a possibility for this to be abused.
Fair enough, but really when isn't that the case?
You want a firewall? Well, if its blocking some packets but letting other through whats to stop it from censoring the web for you and not letting you view any web sites it deems "bad"?
Want a virus scanner? Well, if its scanning all your files whats to stop it from deleting anything it finds objectionable or that doesn't have valid DRM?
Want to network card? Well, whats to stop the card manufacturers from inbedding logic in the card to launch a DOS attack on the pentagon which lands you in Gitmo?
The West should be more concerned with Muslim terrorists.
Yes, yes. The fact that it seems many western/. readers don't even realize there are any other kinds of terrorits really leads me to believe that should be even MORE concerned and focused on them then they currently are. Seems muslim terrorists just aren't getting enough play now-a-days.
Ahh, but so far all the terrorists have been Muslim.
Timothy Mcveigh, Eric Rrudolph, the Unibomber, misc abortion clinic bombers and abortion doctor killer, etc, etc, etc. Look over the last 10-20 years (even since 9/11) and only a very small percentage of terrorist acts have been by muslims!
And you complain about ignorance frustrating you?!?!?
It may well be far easier to go from new Mac to another new Mac. The fact remains that for some reason you wanted to do a fairly major hardware upgrade to your fathers PC. Perhaps a new PC would be a better option... however, with non-Mac systems you have those options. With a Mac you don't.
Not saying one is better, just seems funny to slam one system for being difficult to upgrade while praising a system where that isn't even an option.
And tell me how easy it is to upgrade your Mac to say an AMD processor and/or adding a nice Haumpauge tv tuner? Oh, your Mac doesn't allow that? Sorry.
There simply is no reason to own a PC anymore. You can get a Mac and have your PC, too.
Pssst! I have a secret for you... Macs are PCs! That's right; no matter how much their adverts try to create some artificial delineation between them Macs are simply PCs that happen to run a different OS.
Hate to disagree... but I have to disagree. Your definition may be correct in the abstract, but in the real world when dealing with a project of any real size or complexity the final released product will have known bug fixes, etc let alone a release candidate. Its just a matter of prioritizing these issues and deciding which one are "show stoppers" and which can be dealt with. Any issues of a certain severity will have to be fixed before shipping, but there will often be known issues of a low priority in the final shipped version. This isn't the ideal, but in the real world with dealing with large commercial software it is a fact of life.
Not my reference, but it is correct. Here is there last annual report. Right at the top is thier fiscal year 2006 revenue is 44,282 (in millions) so over 44 billion.
If they thought everybody was buying up new TVs because they are HD, I think they TOTAL misread the situation. I don't think most people could care less if the TV was HD or not they just love the new flat models (HD or not) that you can even hang on a wall if you want to. Its all plasma, LCD, DLP, etc which are making people want new TVs not HD.
Important to remember these new HD formats were never about bringing something new and amazing to the consumers. Its simply that the DVD market is saturated and since everyone (who wants one at least) already has one these hardware guys are seeing thier sales drop-off. These new HD formats are just about trying to get people to buy more stuff. They need sales and if everyone already has thier product then nobody buys. So they had to relese a new product and try to convince consumers of why they needed to buy more stuff. They have failed pretty miserably to date on convincing people to give them more money.
I think that depends what the companies care more about. Do they care more about how many people see thier product or how much money they make from it? If its the later, then its a fairly relevant comparison.
This has the potential to be the first article about a Sony exec saying something that may not be tagged fud!

Intuit doesn't make an OS.

And it won't be included by default (seperate download last I heard) because Adobe threatened anti-trust action.

He did ALSO as Can it be used to create GUIs, add [business] logic to these GUIs as easily as VB?
;-)
Whats that about reading the screen?
I don't think thats a reference to the CIA leak case. It seems more a reference about spying one everyone is OK (NSA stuff).
The Apple Store also says its 128. Even though they may now come with 256, it seems the ones Apple are using still have 128.

Worldwide, I'd have to give you that. I was just refering to attacks in the US since the discussion is about the TSA
No, but neither were they called terrorists. The term wasn't much in use before 9/11.
You serious? Anyway, here are some starting points for you.
all the terrorists so far have been muslims
For the love of god! Are there actually people this fucking retarded!?!?!?! See poses just above yours for many counter examples!

$44billion? Cite your references please.

Besides it being MS here is a pretty awsome site for samples, references, and tools for playing with Lego MindStorm.
