  6. What happens if the world goes veggie? on Large Scale Production of Artificial Meat · · Score: 1

I do have one *tiny* question for every veggie, vegan et al - what do you think will happen to all the domestic animals (especially young ones - milk could still be used afterall, but there's no use for a calf if we're not eating veal) if the whole world turned veggie? I'd guesstimate that you'd a) see the extinction of about 80% of the breeds of cow, 90%+ of the varieties of pig, not to mention the ecological impact of western society suddenly losing 2/3rds of it's natural wildlife (farmers, already poor, aren't going to keep animals alive that are losing them money)... Just curious as to how veggies view this... (resists adding disclaimers - there is *NOTHING* worse than an article that to 50% of the population is flamebait ending with some crappy get-out clause. Mod me up, mod me down - but hey, mod me on my questions not my skill at escaping negativity ;))

  7. Oh *NOW* I can have fun.... on Sweden Bans Copyrighted Downloading · · Score: 1

Thanks for reminding me of how copyright works... I have now a cunning plan! I will post a load of mp3's with suggestive titles (e.g. britney-spears-latest-album.mp3) to my homepage (all legit, o.c.), complete with a nice html page, all formatted preddy, with a note at the bottom witholding the right to copy to all agents, representatives, friends and family of record agencies and their unions... Then, one "anonymous tip" to the BMI later (uk based here, substitue APB for Sweden, RIAA for the states), sit back and a) watch the server logs carefully, and b) wait for the cease and desist letter... Then, when I have evidence that they've looked at it (Server logs + letter) that they've viewed the page... I'll sue them for copyright infringement (bc their local machine will almost certainly have cached the page)... Then slander/liabel (can never rember which one is which), and *THEN* extortion, and invasion of privacy (how are they gonna find my address from my web site w/o snooping on me? It's not in the whois...) Joy!

You use the operative word there I think - Caught. Just because organised crime is involved doesn't mean there'll be a major name court case, and even if the guys get arrested it might not even be a part of the case. Of the top of my head, an example of this: Al Capone. Multi-million dollar mob criminal, finally brought to court and imprisoned on tax grounds. Try searching the archives for *one* case where he was successfully prosecuted for extortion, racketeering e.t.c - there aren't any. Organised Crime is so because it is successful. Successful criminals *DONT* get caught.

Addiction rates for caffeine are also completely off the chart - nicotine is the only stuff that comes anywhere near close.
