Sadly, we're well beyond that now. A trade war with China now would likely hurt the U.S. a *LOT* more than the U.S. 30 years of "free trade and free markets" aren't something you can just turn away from now without a total economic collapse. Most of our largest retailers now are all but owned by China.
She might have to live in the crappy freshman dorm too, and park her car off campus, and do a million other things that she'll have to bite her lip on and just deal with. Colleges don't cater to everyone's whims, you know.
Probably the same reason they used to charge *YOU* ridiculously high prices for textbooks that they forced you to use, when other cheaper/better alternatives were available. That's what universities do.
Actually, I went all the way through to a Ph.D. at a major university with that attitude. As long as you played it smart, you could get good grades, learn, AND party. Only idiots thought you had to choose.
As a self-righteous vegan, I too am superior to everyone else. And, like you, I don't hesitate to let everyone within earshot know it whenever possible. Thanks for enlightening us filthy, TV-watching heathen. Your wisdom is like a beacon, guiding us down the path to our salvation.
In the 60's it was overpopulation that would doom us. In the 70's it was global cooling and the disappearing ozone layer. But instead we kept moving, once again confounding the millenialists and doomsayers.
Just once I would like to know what it was like to have a government that represented me, and told the MPAA/RIAA to shut *its* hole. Unfortunately, with the Democrats beholden to Hollywood, and the Republicans beholden to big business, it's likely that the MPAA/RIAA will get whatever they ask for in the end.
If their DRM only effected pirates, it would be one thing. But at this point, the DRM is becoming so oppressive that it's having a negative effect on those of us who *try* to be honest. When I have to crack my player just to be able to skip 10 minutes of mandatory commercials at the beginning of a DVD/blu-ray, that's a sad day. I have already refused to pay for any more movie tickets because of this--I'll be damned if I'm paying $10 to sit through a bunch of TV commercials at the beginning of a movie (anyone remember when the beginning of a movie had a cartoon and a couple of trailers, and *NO* soda or car commercials?). Now the DMCA has turned me into a criminal just because I insist on controlling the $20 disc I legitimately *bought*.
I love many dystopian stories (they're entertaining and often enlightening), but the idea that dystopia is historically inevitable is foolish. Everyone ALWAYS thinks the end is at hand. And yet humanity keeps on progressing in spite of it all. Sure there have been some setbacks, but we've made it through tens of thousands of years now and we're still here, doing better than we've ever done before. You can find the guy walking through any era in known history who's carrying the "The End is Nigh" sign. And it's easy to think up a million "Chick Little" scenarios where "We all gonna die!" But it never happens. Humans survive, humans adapt, humans keep on trucking. Dystopia is not only NOT inevitable, it's probably not even likely.
Yeah, but there are also tired cliches (like the robot/computer that goes nuts and starts mercilessly killing humans). One of the reasons I liked the recent Moon is because it subverted that tired cliche.
If AT&T actually makes the upgrades, and Apple ends their exclusivity agreement with them (as they are rumored to be considering), maybe AT&T will finally rise to the absymal level to merely mediocre.
Meant to say "A trade war with China now would likely hurt the U.S. a *LOT* more than China."

No, but they can probably tell you where you can buy weed.

It's ironic that Apple wouldn't exist without Steve Wozniak, one of the geekiest tinkerers of all time.
Sir, please remove your head from there. Mr. Jobs wishes to turn around without breaking your neck.
Something Apple can't charge you for, apparently.
It's funny how things change. When I was young, we didn't have the term "unschooling." Back then we just called it "dropping out."

Saying the wrong words can get you hit with sticks and stones.

The industry wide standard for Sony is whatever flaky new proprietary format Sony happens to be behind at the moment.
They should do the next article on technology in scifi movies that DOESN'T go horribly wrong or lead to some nightmarish dystopia.
The 3D on this TV is so good that not only will the money shot make you duck, it'll give you an STD too.
Geez, You English act like you invented the language.
Paris Hilton is always saying she wants to to escape the paparazzi. This will be a great opportunity to grant her wish AND ours.
They'll probably go running to Congress asking for them to subsidize it. And, knowing Congress, they'll probably give it to them too.

That's an oxymoron, like "honest politician."
No way am I going that far from Blizzcon.
