Every country and culture has a nasty history of some kind. That doesn't mean they just give up and commit cultural/national suicide over it. Europeans have long been a cynical lot. But the level of self-hatred and white guilt that we're seeing today has almost become a form of mass mental illness. Europe is rapidly becoming dysfunctional to the point where, when the invaders come (and they always do eventually), most will just throw open the gates and beg to be destroyed.

You know, I'm beginning to think that the left's willful ignorance of all the terrorist attacks and immigrant violence going on in Europe is a form of mental illness. I really think that many of you do truly believe that all the violence is coming from right-wing white people. Do you even remember the recent spate of terrorist attacks in France, or have you purged them from your memory because they don't fit your narrative? In your mind, have you cherry-picked a few minor instances of violence AGAINST immigrants to retain in your memory, while deliberately forgetting hundreds of incidents of violence BY immigrants?

Someone really should do a paper on White Guilt, European self-hatred and the capacity for mass self-delusion in the modern European psyche.

The odds were, and still are, in favor of him being full of shit on those promises. But that 30% chance is still better than the 0% chance that Hillary would have ever stood up for the working class.

Imprisoning your opposition, threatening them with violence, getting them fired from their jobs, banning them from speaking engagements, harassing them, calling them racists and sexists, etc.--well that's something else entirely. The left stopped merely "disagreeing" some time ago.

  8. Yeah, that's one of many tricks used. Another is to post jobs with ridiculous requirements that make them basically impossible to fill, then running to Congress begging for more visas and citing these unfilled positions as evidence that there aren't enough qualified American workers available.

Since the bill supposedly "explicitly prohibits the replacement of American workers by visa holders" this would presumably not be necessary. If Americans are able and willing to do the job, companies shouldn't even be allowed to hire H1B visa holders. Of course, that has never stopped companies from finding a million loopholes and tricks to get around this in the past.

It all comes down to how strictly and consistently the law is actually enforced. Send a few execs to prison for trying to cheat the system and the rest would quickly fall in line. But, campaign promises aside, the odds of THAT happening are slim to none.

Stark Trek has always been socially progressive, but that's NOT the same as SJW.

Socially progressive = being tolerant of all races, genders, creeds, etc.
SJW = lionizing certain races, creeds, genders while villainizing others.

And, sadly, ST:Discovery has all the earmarks of an SJW smug-fest. Notice how there isn't a single straight white (human) male in the crew? Nope, but you can bet they'll get plenty of the villain roles. In SJW-world, straight white males are ALWAYS the villains now.

This is especially disappointing as Bryan Fuller was once one of the most talented writers and showrunners in Hollywood. His Trek writing cred was top-notch. And most of his earlier shows ("Dead Like Me," "Wonderfalls" etc.) were fucking brilliant. But, like milk, every creative talent comes with an expiration date. And I think Fuller spoiled some time ago. Unlike his early works, this whole shows reeks of SJW fart-sniffing in its most smug and bigoted form. It's sad to see that come from Fuller, of all people.

It's possible that the show could still surprise us. But all signs right now point to a new Star Trek universe where the sign "Straight White Males Need Not Apply" is placed clearly in the window.

First, though Steam has sales. PlayStation Store also has sales. Second, console games have historically been more likely than PC games to support same-screen multiplayer with two to four gamepads, and if you have more than one gamer in the house, one copy of a $60 game that supports multiple gamepads is cheaper than three copies of a $30 game that requires a separate copy per player. Third, if everybody were to wait for the sale instead of buying in release month at full price, publishers would have no money to continue to fund development of high-production-value games.

Not to mention the fact that, unlike PC games, you can often find dirt-cheap used physical copies of console games on Amazon and other sites. A while back I bought a used copy of Battlefront for PS4 for $10 on Amazon. Good luck getting it for sale on PC for that price.

And even if you could, big Steam sales only come a few times a year and many devlopers don't even support Steam (including big names like EA and Ubisoft). By contrast, cheap used copies of console games can be found anytime.

No, their core demographics are kids and nostalgic adults who won't grow up.

It is important when discussing poignant points like you have presented that we understand that Nintendo sells most of their consoles at a profit while Xbox and Playstation have largely been subsidized, and yet Nintendo still sells.

Actually, from what I understand that hasn't been true for several years now. They've been losing money on the WiiU from the get-go. The 3DS and a big bankroll they had saved up has basically been keeping them afloat.
