Used to have a deaf roommate who was big into "deaf culture" (and was very annoying about it). We're talking Malcolm X militant about it. He wasn't alone either. There are a lot of people into deaf rights who think it should be illegal to air or play anything non-CC'ed. And they *will* sue.
Great for them, not so great for the rest of us who get cut off from all non-CC'ed content. And getting something CC'ed is pretty expensive--prohibitively so for a lot of indies.
The traditional lifespan for a console generation is 5 years. That's the gold standard going back to the Atari 2600 days. The Xbox 360 now represents the oldest console generation in history, at over 6 years and some change (beating out the PS2's 6 years even). If a new Xbox isn't released until the Fall of 2013, it will be *by far* the oldest console generation ever (at 8 years) since consoles began.
Bias intimidation is intimitading a group of people based on your bias.
So if I yell insults at a group of fans of a rival basketball team, I'm committing a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison? Are you serious?!?
The very term "bias intimidation" itself is crazy vague. And you're crossing pretty far into free speech territory there without a guide. Does it include insulting someone? Calling them a derogatory name? And who decides what's derogatory or not, or what is an insult or not?
I think you could make a point without sending someone to prison for ten years on some vague charge of "bias intimidation." It's not like this guy hasn't already had his face plastered all over the news as an epic asshole, and (rightfully) been convicted of invasion of privacy.
Yeah, he definitely was guilty of invasion of privacy and most certainly was an asshole of extraordinary magnitude. But am I the only one kind of creeped out by the idea that something as vague as "bias intimidation" can get you ten years in prison? I mean, what the hell even *is* that?
Wish I could mod this up. A lot of people don't realize that the Palestinians are descendents of the Hebrews who once made up ancient Israel too. The average Palestinian has way more ancestors from ancient Israel than any modern european Jew.
If that's a joke, it way fall a bit flat, considering that both the U.S. and Israel have been funding and arming Iranian militants, as well as extremists in the Green Movement, in Iran for years.
In the very timeline you cited, you'll note how there is a break in eras right after the "Axis of Evil" speech. It was only a few months after that speech that Iran publicly announced the now-reknown Natanz facility and began upgrading it (from making fuel-grade uranium to the capacity to make weapons-grade uranium). I suppose you think that break was just a coincidence (just like it was a coincidence that North Korea suddenly withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty at around the same time). But the fact is that Iran's nuclear program shifted from power generation to weapons production just after that speech. They got the message.
George Bush's ill-advised and poorly thought-out speech has cost us very dearly.
Everything that is wrong or has gone wrong in the last 10 - 15 years is George W Bush's fault
No, the last three are Obama's fault. Clinton had plenty of screw-ups too (oh, how I can list them). But I would contend that the "Axis of Evil" speech stands out as a particularly epic diplomatic and strategic fuck-up. It served no positive purpose, and put two countries on the nuclear path who didn't need to be.
No, I meant there is a whole different dynamic on how they pursue negotiations, and how they must be dealt with. Their recent breakneck pursuit of nuclear weapons did indeed begin after the "Axis of Evil" speech. They were even a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It was only in 2003 that they withdrew and ratcheted up their nuke and missile program. Read up on it for yourself.
Oh yeah, my roomie regarded those implants as the enemy, and any deaf person who supported them as a traitor.

I've never once had any trouble running any 3rd-party software on Windows. Apple's walled garden worries me WAY more than anything MS has ever done.
You, sir, win the internet today.
I concur that we should do everything in our power to protect our children from anal probe.
John Sullivan warned corporate about Microsoft's proprietary network security programs.
Are there any non-proprietary corporate network security options?
Have we "advanced" now that Obama Administration killed our manned space program
Son, every administration since Nixon has driven nails in that coffin.
Posting AC won't save you from the sugar mines, resister!
He clearly needs to mind his P's and Q's.
Yeah, and many a whaler died on the moon trying to bring it back.
Hey, my mother was a dimestore pornstar, you insensitive clod!

Jersey is going to need a LOT more prisons.

Because being a prick isn't a crime and the justice system is supposed to be about the law, not retaliation.

Charismatic salesmen and well-funded lobbyists can work miracles.
Yep.
Everyone has a price. I'd like to think that most people would stand up to them, but I suspect the vast majority would only negotiate.
