A jury can do anything they want. If there are "rules" against nullification, they can just make up some lame argument why they voted against the "government."
I doubt your claim that there are rules against this kind of verdict because it is common to be charged with contempt of court if you tell the jury about nullification during a trial. (At least as a lawyer. If you, the defendant, is on the stand making a statement, I don't know if they can silence you.)
Frankly, if I ever get on a jury, I simply will not convict anyone no matter what the charge. Call if payback.
Reading the words, it says they cannot discriminate against a healthy person.
While that makes sense, the more heinous discriminate is doing so against a person once they are sick.
So once they ARE sick and HAVE a bad gene, then they can really ratchet up the premiums.
Since no one mentioned this, I expect that will be possible under this bill. (If this WAS included in the bill, THIS would be the true strength of the legislation)
The fact that so many representatives voted for it and the power of the insurance companies, make it likely that this, again, will be the case.
My ham friend intercepted a boater caught in a hurricane 1000 miles away that could only transmit morse because of radio damage. He informed 911 and they actually rescued the boater.
If you are trapped and the only way to communicate is by hitting something or the like, morse is essential.
With morse, you can send a message with a welder, smoke, etc.
One of the traditions of ham radio operators is their help in disaster areas. Not knowing morse is like... not owning a gun in my book.
I laugh, on Letterman or Leno or... they had 2 morse code guys race 2 text message nerds and the morse guys totally smoked them.
Frankly, I think morse code should be taught in school so that everyone has at least a rudimentary knowledge of it.
As Barry Goldwater said, when we speak of freedom, we mean freedom from Government.
Yes, things are screwed up here real good, however, as long as we have our guns, we still have the power to take our country back.
You can't really have a Police State untill all the guns are confiscated.
Actually, if coached by a lawyer, a motivated student could stage this whole scenario and end up with big money in their pockets.
Hummmmmmmm.... makes you wonder who is already milking the system.
There are 2 kinds of people in this world: Men and notMen.
While only a movie, the scenes where in Fight Club, members are told to go out and start a fight are quite authentic.
9 times out of 10, you can really rough someone up and they will do nothing.
of course 1 time out of 100, they will kill you back.
Frankly, I don't think there is enough violence in our society. If this incident turned into a riot with grievous property damage and casualties, then the Policy would be questioned. Otherwise, you can expect Policy to gradually strengthen over time.
My problem is I keep seeing in my mind, Jews getting on those cattle cars - it is mind numbing how non-violent people can be.
The early AR15 sold as semi-auto to the public could be turned into a full blown machine gun by merely replacing the sear (small metal part in the action). It's virtually a drop-in part.
So the law goes: possession of an auto sear is the same as possessing an illegal machine gun.
They also define the legal definition of the gun as the receiver. If you have the receiver, you have the gun. If you have all the parts less the receiver, you have nothing.
These and the RIAA law are pre-emptive. Go to jail before crime is committed.
They are both actually "profiling" however, no one wants to use the Politically Incorrect "profiling" on legal actions the government actually wants.
I have a friend who worked at Pratt & Whitney who started his own, independent company to do finite element analysis. He had no firewalls (this was 5-10 years ago) and one day the FBI showed up because some had hijacked his server and was distributing child porn on it.
The whole thing was straightened out in a civilized manner and of course, now he has layers of protection.
But that is interesting, if you have a unsecure wireless network, you can claim that your system is not secure and others have access to it.....and interesting defense.
It is odd, that you can legally own a thing. Possess it in your home. But not allowed to "take it apart."
That really means you don't own it.
The way I see it, what I do in my own home, as long as it stays there, is simply no ones business.
I also believe if I am smart enough to crack someone's OTA encryption, then all's fair in love and way, I should legally have access to what I am smart enough to recognize. If get help from someone else, or give the content to someone else, that is an entirely different manner.
Regarding copyright. Shouldn't that be regulated by Anti-Trust law? Copyright is now the backbone for huge revenue - more than some telecom.
Might as well give RIAA its wishes and make all copyrighted material Secret so that No One may access it under any circumstances.
Again, P2P = Radio = TV, EXCEPT that P2P is NOT controlled by media giants.
Think Pay-O-La or Creating a Demand or Censorship or the Long Lists of Artists that have been or are being screwed by the media giants.
A pirate is someone who knocks-off a CD.
Anything else is is a red-herring. An MP3 is a technically inferior piece of crap.
"Downloading" is morally equivalent of "request night" on a radio station. and that's legal right???
Should I pay RIAA if I hum or sing a song? What if I play it on my guitar.
Maybe I should pay RIAA if I can enjoy it by playing it back in my mind.
Maybe I should pay RIAA if I think of a song.
I'm against the Death Penalty because most prosecutions are based on politics, money, or vendetta.
What would be fair in a Death Penalty case would be if an innocent person was executed, then the jury, prosecutor and judge would be guilty of 1st degree murder as a minimum. I'm not sure if they should get the Death Penalty automatically or not.

didn't use Google, just my memory...

If people see a long line and a short line, they will invariably get in the long line "because everyone is in the long line."
Things are so bad that free speech that "doesn't direct harm" is actually meaningless speech. Or rather, irrelevant speech.

So... his point... was what???
