The OEM should provide a way that allows the purchaser to program keys into EFI and the OS should allow the installer to notify the OS install process of their key. Personally I prefer there to be no way of making changes to the EFI without physical access. It should be a process of 1) jump pins 2) boot CD 3) program or update. This would place the control in the hands of the owner not an OEM or OS vendor.
No. Also. The employees making $20,000/y should be taxed, "even if it is only $1", and the president should get an additional tax cut, "because he creates jobs".
A nation that allows profiting off imprisonment should incite revolts. The U.S. managed to get around this by allowing prisons to be run by the private sector.
The ignorance in the media over what is a public and what is a private network is what needs to be fixed. Someone needs to let the morons know an ISP is not a private network.
Internet service with blocked ports is not really internet service.
I totally agree. The belief that allowing port 25 traffic to a user magically allows them to spam is a joke. Having an email server is not necessary for spam. Restricting outbound port 25 traffic is a bigger joke. It does not hinder spam in any way. Email sent over high ports >1024 (ie. virus/worms) makes up 90% of all email spam. Not only that, it is usually UDP traffic.
Sysadmins should be able to regulate their network traffic however they want. An ISP's network is not a private network. If the only machines your users are allowed to access are the machines on the private network you are offering them access to, you are not an ISP. Net neutrality is: If your an ISP you do not have the authority to sensor, disseminate, or restrict access to legitimate lawful content outside of the limits of the contracts with your users.

That "just been fucked" feeling has come to a lot of people that wrote applications for the Windows platform. Crossplatform libraries are very solid these days. It may take some time to get over the anger but when you do those libraries will be there.
I totally agree. Do you believe hardware makers for phones, tablets, game boxes, "tivos", etc... will? Device hackers are people too you insensitive clod;)
Only allow changes to the firmware (EFI) by someone with physical access to the machine. Access to writing to the BIOS from the OS is the current vector of a root kit.
1) Jump pin 10 and 11 2) Boot to EFI interface (EFI should be written to refuse to boot to a device when 10 and 11 pins are jumped) 3) Set the origin of the EFI update (USB, CD, Disk...) 4) Press Enter
I hear hydrogen bound to oxygen can be stored at all temperatures up to 100C. It's more economical to distribute the energy than the hydrogen. It is even more economical to distribute the process of generation and the raw materials.
If voice recognition was better you could let A.L.I.C.E. loose on them. Chumping them into believing the "home owner" has to talk through a voice assisted microphone or something might be necessary but it sure would be fun as hell if you were successful.
Kids with phones interact with others. Kids with game boys did not?
1/3rd of all Americans with a 10 year old own a mobile home! Big ol "were a AAA country. naner naner naner" lookin... :P
Oh now I understand. Thanks!

I read it as, "Consumers will be locked into Windows by the OEM's not us. No really. We have nothing to do with it. It is all up to them".

By the time the U.S. OK's another Mars mission those astronauts are going to be in their 80's.
Sorry. I saw the title and thought there was actually data to be found.
Is that an N-dimensional matrix search that uses + in the regular expression?
Kids that need rebooting? I sense a patent lawsuit in his future.
They used linear algebra to teach neural nets to do linear algebra? My brain hurts.
and you create a nation of law-breakers

Considering some users go through 3 EULA's to get a machine capable of using a browser, yes. You are fucked before you even connect to an ISP.

True. But then they can't fuc.. er sell you business service. ie. Slightly more bandwidth over the same lines for twice as much.

In all seriousness I'd recommend a physical. Noticeable memory loss is an early sign of heart disease.
I know that exercise helps brain function but shocking somebody in the head with an electrical probe isn't a very nice way to motivate someone.
