I built the QW Home Automation system. http://qwhomeautomation.com/ The system is proprietary but completely free. Currently it supports Insteon devices only. My approach is to solve fundamental problems and build a solid infrastructure and make steady progresses. You can check out the status of my current release on my website. The documentation is pretty comprehensive. In this month, a new version will be released to only allow encrypted communication. The SSL session will be used primarily for commissioning, to exchange a per user based AES 256 key as shared secret. An AES-GCM based encryption will be used by android client for better efficiency. Because SSL is blocked by some regimes such as China, my AES based session can get around it. Lua jit support will be added in August. By then the system will have pretty advanced architecture. The a Zigbee coordinator will be added, that will feature up to over 6,5000 devices in network, each with unique random APS level link key for true end to end encryption. If you know what I'm talking about you should nobody has done it yet. As a technologist I am pissed by the fact that in this world nothing works. I don't give a shit about those web 2.0 my ass or cloud computing or countless buzz words while their systems still suffering blocking gethostbyname system API that occasionally freezes randomly because of it. I am building a system that every single thread of mine is deterministic and under control at any giving time.

To solve the gang problem, I don't see any solution other than physical extermination. Given Chinese executing more than half of the death penalties in the world, Mexicans would need an even big quota. I can't imagine how it could happen. Democracy is not the problem. Fake democracy is. I would rather be ruled by Chinese capitalist government than your mafia government. You can't demand to live in paradise. So it's most likely either or scenario. Talking is cheap. Do you really believe there is a solution to the gang problem? Well I can guarantee you if the same thing happens in China, army will be sent over there. First batch of 100 gangs will be tried and executed with machine gun in weeks. If there is still problem there will be second batch, third batch until the mess is cleaned. We don't have a quota of the maximum death panelties per year. We will kill as many sons of bitches as necessary.

I always believe people get exactly the kind of government they deserve. Italians, Mexicans, Russians are all ruled by mafias. As a Chinese I'm glad to see that the Chinese is ruled by capitalists. The members of Politburo of the Communist Party of China are actually the biggest capitalists in the country. They are like board of directors of the country. Yes, they corrupt. Who doesn't? They are certainly no more corrupt than India politicians, Russian politicians, or Berlusconi. And they have done a pretty damn good job, betters than politicians in the rest of the world in the past 20 years. And what about democracy? Well India and Mexico are perfect example of the failure of their political system. China will have a chance to take time to clean up, till the communist party is cleansed eventually. Sorry Mexico, you are over!

Some people just think other people can't build better stuff than they do. And I call that kind of people arrogant dumb asses. Humbleness has been traditionally regarded by Chinese as a virtue for thousands of years. Being humble doesn't limit the creativity or diligence by all means. Chinese people won't hold knowledge as asymmetrical information against the other people for ridiculous profit. From bare-bone telecom equipments, high speed train, to advanced jet fighter, as long as Chinese can independently manufacture those things, the price will drop many times all of a sudden. Chinese people are happy with the "penny profit" they made from hardworking, whether it is from "selling high-tech product" or 50 cents per unit iPod assembly line. Chinese people has contributed a great deal to this world by making it running more efficiently. The Chinese strategy is not trying aggressively to compete against US as the top super power. Their goal is to maintain enough capability at 10% of cost. I remember the Chinese manned space program took 10 years and only about 1 billion USD. Just try to compare it to the bonus pool of Goldman Sachs. As the J20, I am not expert of jet fighters. But from what I heard both the aerodynamic shapes and avionics are more advanced than any existing design. Who did Chinese copy those things from?
