While these shots are very impressive, they don't actually represent any type of gameplay. A butterfly isn't made up of nearly as many polys as a fighter is. I'd like to see some demos with actual charachters making poses or doing whatever. But, the X-Box could seriously give the PS2 a run for its money. I think that if we are to have 4+ game consoles (Dreamcast, Nintendo Dolphin, PS2, X-Box, more?) that several of them will fail leaving 2 or 3 remaining successful. The two most likely to fail in my eyes are MS and Sega, MS since they don't have any experience in the console arena, and Sega since their product is inferior to the competition.
I'm sure that the simple hash encryption is only used for the block lists, etc. on the CyberPatrol part of the firewall. The firewall specific stuff is most likely using another (stronger) form of encryption than the CyberPatrol part. The problem here results in the communication between the two resulting in potential for security problems.
I think the reason that the Palm platform is the prefered PDA is because of its simplicity. People want an organizer, not a mp3 player/cell phone/pager/web browser/camera/portable campfire. If Royal can provide a simplistic but programmable PDA to the Linux community, they may be a huge success, however, if they decide to take things too far at the expense of battery life and usability, then it will be headed for the trash. There's no reason that something can't be both simple and expandable, but the companies assume that everyone wants these features just because the MS Pocket PC has them. The Pocket PC might be cool to impress your friends playing a 2 minute MPEG video that uses all your flash rom, but is there a real use for such features, I don't think so.
Uh, sorry, this has already happened. A church in my town has a sign on the front lawn with a picture of a cross and a scriptutre quote, underneath in little letters it says "Copyright SomethingOrOther Bible Company, 1982" I laughed my ass off, and being atheist, showed all the stupid religious sheep in my town how all the 'religious' companies are little more than commercial entities. Anyways, thereisno.god is going to be mine soon enough, but imagine what those IRC script kiddies will do, i.am.l33t.i.h4v3.r00t.0n.th3.b0x0rs.of.god, or something like that. Anyone get darwin.god yet, or monkey.becomes.man.bible.is.lies.made.by.god, Ok, I'm rambling on here. If these domains are less than $30, expect me to get one:)

I'm putting a regular PC into an SGI Indigo case sometime soon. I've got a picture linked off my writings page somewhere, but I forget the URL offhand. I got the gutted case for $35 on ebay, try searching for 'SGI Indigo Chassis', with enough work, you might be able to fit an AT motherboard in, but no CDROM, etc. Now, what I really want is a Crimson RealityEngine which is about the size of an air conditioning compressor unit:)
What's up with/. today? I heard that they were getting DDoS'd recently, but the entire front page is mangled beyond all recoigniton. Anyone have a clue what's really going on, and why the slashdot guys aren't mentioning it?
Free Speach? What's that? If you haven't noticed, Free Speach in America is a joke. I can't speak my mind in school for fear of punishment. If I recite the MSFT kerberos information in a public place, I'd be arrested for copyright infringment. What has this country come to when the RIAA and MPAA, etc. are now a major part of our country's law system. This case is a major test for the DMCA, and I hope that slashdot is able to get to keep the comments. Anyone know of any truly free, english speaking country?
The BSD license isn't viral like the GPL is. Under BSD style license, a commercial company can take code, change it, and put a proprietery/commercial license. There's several versions of Apache with SSL,etc. added that are commercial products with commercial licenses. While posting "you can use winzip to get around their self extractor" isn't a problem from what I believe, posting their code in a public forum without their license attached is *wrong*. Just because this is MSFT we're talking about doesn't mean that they don't deserve the same respect you would give to any other company. For the record, I don't use any Microsoft software on my workstation, but I don't see why you people think its OK to break the law 'because microsoft is evil'. The law is the law, If you beat a satan-worshiper over the head and kill him, you have still commited murder, even though the person may be 'evil'. Its the same thing posting microsoft's code, though they may be 'evil', breaking the law is breaking the law, nothing more, nothing less.
What you did with the 800 number is illegal in most states. IIRC some AntiSomething group did it to a government office and were caught. They had to pay the bill too. I think the same law applies to pager bombing, etc.
I hope so, I'm not sure if bleem! on the PC does CD/Reigon checking. If this played backups/imports, Sony may actually have a case against Bleem! on Dreamcast, however, if it played backups/imports, I'd be one of the first in line to by a DC + Bleem!

Oops...i forgot my Sharp MD-MT15 and the stack of memorex minidiscs next to it, along with my copy of The Dilbert Future, and my Structure can that has a bunch of change in it. I've also got a Ty bean animal that looks like the GNU gnu. Also a stack of CDs, floppy discs, a bottle of ReNu contact lens cleaner, a script to a play for school, a copy of The Matrix on DVD, a pair of IDE CD-ROMs, a D-Link 10BaseT hub, and to my right an aging Sharp 20" TV that i got at a yard sale about 2 years ago, whew!
I'm not a fan of SF or anything like that, on my desk is: My JBL 500s, A Zenith VCR, An NEC FE700, a *gasp* Microsoft Mouse, a box of girlscout cookies, a 1gb IDE harddrive, a bag of goldfish crackers, some books and papers and whatnot. Under the desk is my custom built linux box and Pioneer VSX-305 reciever. Oh yeah, i've also got a SGI Indigo( see pictures here and here) case that I haven't gotten around to using yet. On my bookshelf is, HTML 3.2 Unleashed, Perl in a nutshell, Fundamentals of database administration, C: A Reference Manual, and Client/Server Computing. And i'm rolling about the room on a very comfy Cartwright chair. So, i guess we are all individuals:)
Before everyone starts saying things like: "There's a whole bunch of legal mp3s on napster", I'd like to say this: face it, Napster's purpose is trading mp3s illegally, there is no other legitatamate use. There will be people who argue that we should also get rid of http and ftp because they *could* be used for piracy. http and ftp also have legitamate uses, napster does not. I use napster, and I like it, but I won't argue its legality with anyone. I personally believe that its OK to take singles because you could have taped them off the radio onto your computer, but taking entire albums is wrong
$50 for a 56k modem! Name brand (other than USR/3Com) 56k soft-modems are like $30, and cheapo nonames are like $10. And $10 is a bit cheap for a case, considering that you have to pay shipping, I had a $20 case i picked up at a computer show, and well, i put a hole in the metal with sandpaper, so, you get what you pay for, also, you could've chose a cheapo PCChips integrated board which would be about $60, and $50 or so for CPU. Oh yeah, and 64MB can be had for about $30 a stick for PC100.
If there is an Open Source version of MPEG4, will we be able to view our asf files. I know I have a lot of, uh, important movies in that ASF format that I would *really* enjoy watching in Linux;)
I feel that X is the biggest problem for Linux users these days. The protocol is slow and outdated and it makes tons of problems for newbies. Despite its problems, X with its excellent networking capabilities is a good choice due to its wide software base. Other graphics system for linux such as berlin aren't going to become the future due to their lack of software. However, Things like DRI are improving X's 3d capabilities, so I'm sure new technologies will improve its 2d rendering speed as well.

The real question to ask is, "Are they running IIS?" NT itself is pretty stable, running other MS server stuff on it seems to bring it down quickly.
