  5. Re:To play devil's advocate... on New Technology vs. Old Gamer Classics · · Score: 1
Exactly. The point is, games are just more complicated now. There are so many more variables and places that can cause problems, that problems are way more likely to occur.

On another note, I'm not really against the whole patch thing. I mean, even if I buy a game that wasn't built solid the first time around, it'll work eventually, right? So, either you can wait for the patch, or you could've waited for the pushed back release date. What's the big deal.

Anyways, patches provide a fix for stuff that never would've been fixed, even with a longer development period. Look at Unreal Tournament 2004. Epic has provided patches and map packs constantly, and continues to do so. How about Counter-Strike: Soruce? Do you think quickscoping would've been fixed had the company just taken 6 more months to release the game? (some people will dispute the word fix, but whatever) Uh, no.

In other words: keep rolling out those patches game companies. ;)

Something similar happened a couple years back (IIRC) when AMD was losing the MHz battle and stated that MHz isn't everything. Well, sure, it isn't. But your whole argument this entire time has been that it is. So, when you shift your argument only when your losing... probably means the argument isn't all that good.

There's just one porblem with your analogy: the AMD processors with less Mhz actually did run faster than the higher Mhz Intels. So, technically, Mhz didn't matter. AMD just had one period of time when their processors were faster than Intel's processors with higher clock speeds (IIRC, AMD was the first one to release a desktop x86 processor at 1Ghz).

Exactly. I mean, just imagine how much more BitTorrent could take off if everyone had higher upstream and download.

Give many people more bandwidth; they'll find a use for it.

However, I don't exactly agree with this statement. Let's say Company X decides to give 10 Mbits/s down and up for $30 a month (I'm just throwing numbers out there, don't take them seriously). 95% of the people out there will just be happy because "it's broadband for $30 a month. Plus it's really fast for web browsing". Right? They don't give two flying flips about the upload, because they don't even know how to take advantage of it. Therefore, the company is selling a really good deal to the nerds who do take advantage, without penalty from the people who don't. This way, I think that upload is going to get a whole heck of a lot cheaper, really soon.

This means that scrolling down my 300 artists or so can take up to 30 seconds.

The new iPod is basically the exact same thing with a bigger screen, better buttons, but no mic, line in, or text features. I'll wait for the next big iPod. ;)

Back on topic, I think this is a great move. Sure it provides publicity (nothing wrong with that), but it also allows for great ideas. Every complaint that the community has about the player can be personally addressed by them. I mean, look at the PSP (and it's firmware is closed!). Any other site has permission based cookies, blocked ActiveX, and blocked Javascript. If I truly need to use the site, I just add it to my Trusted Sites.

I can honestly say that I use hardware firewalls (no software firewalls that I can "turn off", no Anti-Virus, and no Anti-Spyware/Anti-Adware. At the same time I have a script process monitoring regimen and will stand by the fact that if you installed any of the above applications, I'd be clean.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if you know how to use IE correctly, it's perfectly fine (although I use Opera as my primary--excellent interface).
