It's the 1st Linux both my PC and my laptop accepted without a hitch during install or usage (past month or so). Bluetooth, Wireless connection, Printer HP PSC 2175 (with built-in scanner), wireless mouse (MX 7000), wireless keyboard, Multimedia keys and hibernate/resume all worked out of the box. Firefox as default browser is very nice. Ubuntu did what several redhat and suse installs didn't do: got me away from XP with a SMILE! *does happy dance*

That will work. NOT I for one hope that MS DOES exit the EU. I hope they sell all their offices and sack all their employees and ship all their stock back to the US. If MS revokes their licence WHO do you think will enforce it!? What the EU will say? "Go fish!". MS abused their powers. Period. End of discussion. Well until they open up or pay up that is :) I hope the whole of the EU switches to Suse or Debian-Ubuntu.

Why am I not surprised at this? First, they decide that a kilobyte = 1000 bytes, rather than the correct value of 1024. This leads the megabyte to be 1000 kilobytes, again, rather than 1024. The gig is likewise 1000 megabytes. You might think, ok, big deal, right?
Wrong. If you start ranting get your FACTS STRAIGHT. It's been solved in 1998 allready.
    The Standards

Although computer data is normally measured in binary code, the prefixes for the multiples are based on the metric system. The nearest binary number to 1,000 is 2^10 or 1,024; thus 1,024 bytes was named a Kilobyte. So, although a metric "kilo" equals 1,000 (e.g. one kilogram = 1,000 grams), a binary "Kilo" equals 1,024 (e.g. one Kilobyte = 1,024 bytes). Not surprisingly, this has led to a great deal of confusion. In December 1998, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) approved a new IEC International Standard. Instead of using the metric prefixes for multiples in binary code, the new IEC standard invented specific prefixes for binary multiples made up of only the first two letters of the metric prefixes and adding the first two letters of the word "binary". Thus, for instance, instead of Kilobyte (KB) or Gigabyte (GB), the new terms would be kibibyte (KiB) or gibibyte (GiB).

Here are brief summaries of the IEC Standard:

    bit bit 0 or 1
    byte B 8 bits
    kibibit Kibit 1024 bits
    kilobit kbit 1000 bits
    kibibyte (binary) KiB 1024 bytes
    kilobyte (decimal) kB 1000 bytes
    megabit Mbit 1000 kilobits
    mebibyte (binary) MiB 1024 kibibytes
    megabyte (decimal) MB 1000 kilobytes
    gigabit Gbit 1000 megabits
    gibibyte (binary) GiB 1024 mebibytes
    gigabyte (decimal) GB 1000 megabytes
    terabit Tbit 1000 gigabits
    tebibyte (binary) TiB 1024 gibibytes
    terabyte (decimal) TB 1000 gigabytes
    petabit Pbit 1000 terabits
    pebibyte (binary) PiB 1024 tebibytes
    petabyte (decimal) PB 1000 terabytes
    exabit Ebit 1000 petabits
    exbibyte (binary) EiB 1024 pebibytes

That's ALLREADY legal in Holland. Stichting Thuiskopie means roughly: Foundation Homecopy. We got special law that allows anyone to have a copy of anything for homeusage and/or education without having to pay fees (this includes also library books, video and DVD rentals). It's perfectlly legal for me to download ANY file from ANYWHERE of the web. The person making the download available is the one that has to pay for the fees regarding copyright. It's the uploading that's not allowed. Oh and it's allowed to download if that means there will be an upload to make the download possible (like with filesharing thru bittorent) Holland isn't a bad place to be when it comes to downloading. And who needs an IPOD anyways? Ugly things :P Oh and with this price it's cheaper for me to get a TAXI from my place (Roermond) to Germany and back ;)
