That's not what he's talking about. What he was talking about was "You're using one of our patents!" "Well, you're using one of ours, so lets just save ourselves the trouble and agree not to do anything about it."
Well, that shouldn't be happening. sorry, I just deal with my aunt all the time. She is, quite literally, the epitome of computer-illiteracy. "Oh my god, there's this thing on my computer, and people are saying all sorts of bad things, like "what the hell"!" (I left slashdot open, and she apparently couldn't figure out to click the X in firefox like she has done hundreds of other times. Also, only reason she has firefox is because that's what I gave her. The internet explorer icon is hidden, so that I can't even find it. >.>)
I was actually saying from a development/hardware perspective. I think they had to actually reverse-engineer the protocol because it's so strange. But, yeah, it works great now:)
Shameless plug: For those who want iTunes on Linux, check out Songbird
You do NOT get professional third party software for free. What the FUCK are you smoking? Incidentally, didn't your mother tell you to share? An frankly, I find GNOME and KDE both *far* more aesthetically pleasing than the shiny shit of vista. And no, you do not get the same functionality for free; microsoft licensed it from them. That's included in your price, and probably amounts to ten bucks of it. Frankly, if you're that worried, get something like Sabayon Linux which, since it is based outside the USA, can distribute DeCSS, mp3 decoder, all that stuff. THAT is Linux for regular people.
There's a difference between "never gonna get it" and "can't get it without a little help." Just because the/.-reading population tends to be exceedingly intelligent, doesn't mean everyone is. And if only people who read slashdot could be doctors, we'd be fucked.
"Do I wanna be a doctor... or an engineer... or a programmer...?"
That convention went away a long time ago. I have a.com site that I have no intention of making much money on (just to cover the costs of hosting). Look at/.. It's a.org and makes some money.
I think that since Mario is known as a character, rather than as a specific genre of game, that they can get away with that; plus, the mario sports games are FUN.
The market will be so flooded with new 'halo' branded games that it will do nothing but dilute the brand. The RTS thing could be cool; hell, maybe like a space fighter could be cool. But if you start releasing shit like EA does (games are NOT something where release early, release often works well), you will end up with a diluted, or, worse, maligned brand. It's like that "The more you squeeze your hand the more it escapes your grasp" thing...
When I took Organic Chem, in high school, that's about all I could think for a real use for it for me (I'm in accounting now; I *was* in music). I hated that class; anything where you do pure memorization, rather than application and synthesis, is the bane of my education existence.
My, my, someone is an elitist! Not everyone gets everything. Look at myself. I learn VERY quickly - to a point. After that, I hit a sort of plateua. But once I get past that, I'm usually pretty good. The American dream doesn't deny based on "Oh, you didn't get it the first time around."
I suppose it depends on the situation. If someone was misled into believing that everything would be a-ok and just peachy, then why are we insisting on punishing them even more than they already are?
However, someone who has a full understanding of the risks, or, god forbid, EXPECTS this to happen... yeah...
"Honestly, we need to see mortgage brokers going to JAIL. We need to see appraisers going to JAIL. We need to see MILLIONS in personal property of CEOs and CFOs and such confiscated as restitution."
Unfortunately, if there's no law on the books for this, it won't happen. And unfortunately, as ridiculous as it is, limited liability applies to CEOs if I remember.
Welcome to The New America, where we can fuck you over without liability.
Actually, when I said it's been going on since mortgages started, I meant specifically the situation of an honest, hard-working family falling on hard times and not being able to keep up with the payments. That has been going on forever. It's just on a much larger scale, due, essentially, to greed.
Unfortunately, while many people made honest mistakes, this stuff has been happening as long as mortgages have been going on - it's just that, now that more people are affected, and there's legitimate allegations of illegitimate activity by the lenders, it's getting big press. Frankly, if the lenders allowed this to happen to increase the bottom line on the income statement, they should be held liable - THEY make the final decisions as to whether or not to lend the money; if they only lent to increase short-term profits, damn the effect on the borrower, then they did something unethical and, in my opinion, wrong.
The lenders dug their own grave, let 'em sleep there.

breach of contract? I dunno.

Really, GREAT job with this! I hope you don't get it, and are forced to pay all sorts of fines.
Sick of software patents. "Oh, this makes your screen tell you something is happening!" Yeah, real fucking original.

Do other dvds work? If so, then it's the discs, stupid.
I think the GP meant the DVD-ROM drive?
No, there's a lot of crap you have to do to get iPods working...
It doesn't actually conform to the USB Mass Storage spec, at least not for music. File storage, sure, but otherwise, no.
But people see Master Chief as a shooter. That's it.
Mario is like... multi-purpose, because he's such a general, recognizable character.

No, he's a traitor. You NEVER trust guys in beards unless they're telling you OSS is GOOD!
Guy with a beard? Fucking traitor!!!

Well, the "GTFO" attitude he exhibited is very obviously associated with elitism.

The odds a billion dollar celebrity and a million dollar celebrity are indeed rather low.
And crap. Don't forget crap!
The house 'flippers' are honestly some of the worst people. Buying a house ONLY to sell it to someone who actually wants it, at a profit? Despicable.
