She could also consider abandoning her (probably 5 year old) lesson plans, and rewrite them to use formats, materials and forums designed to not easily be transcribed w/ a keyboard.
Toyed w/ it for a week or so and the magazine that came w/ it (programs to type in) - then sent it back - I cut a few million more lawns and saved my $$ for a vic20 - bought a few months before the C64 officially came out (@#%!$^@%).
I remember riding my bike 2 towns over to the Toys R Us, drooling at the 1541 floppy drive and the C64 strapped to a pegboard with bungee cords and hanging from the ceiling. All that speed and whopping storage - I prolly had a woody.
Anyone out there have actual data on the diversity stats of qualified applicants for a specific job relative to the diversity stats of people actually in that job?
Take the small bit of risk the jump involves. Working for a startup is often a blast, and will most often take you to the limits of your abilities. Based on my experience at 3 startups, you will meet really cool people - bond with them (similar to college), and learn lots of stuff that will help you in the future, e.g. starting your own business. And when your done, that despicable bunch you bonded with will become an excellent network in your industry.
If your experience is anything like mine were - you'll have a blast - and end up earning way more than you expected.
Oh yeah, and:
If it doesn't work out, take back that "in training for retirement" job or one like it - they will always be there.
Startups employ lots of young eager smart people - many of whom are female. (See bonding statement above)
One time at band camp - my roommate ran a 500MB drive without its case in his butt crack for three or four hours . . .
OK, this really leaves the following question.
Is modding your hard disk in this way a precursor to moving out of your parent's basement? Or is posting something as lame as this, and for that matter replying to it . . .
~ Either way it still beats actually working.
(messing w/ the drive that is, not living in ones parents basement, )
If a part within a car or the car itself is defective or buggy, it's the automakers responsibility to report it and initiate a recall as necessary. Not the company* that was contracted to make and/or assemble that part. Now the fact that they drag their feet and wildly stall to do this (usually a lawsuit is what brings it fourth) is another story.
* Unless that item is a separately branded item like say . . . tires.
The whole purpose of UI design is to bend technology to the user - not to the developer.
The "longstanding problem" spoken about here is incorrectly addressed by the software and MS - and speaks worlds about why most MS programs/solutions suck.
Holography, more specifically motion holography was pioneered by the porn industry - cause they had the equipment. (Or so i was told in holography classes)
I see bloat, way too many useless poorly grouped tools and worthless but cool functions in Acrylic's future. Perhaps MS should consider hiring more Information Architects and real UI designers to deliver tools people can use.
So long as hoes like me design and make dynamic sites to sell huge volumes of useless crap to the hordes of computer illiterate people with a disposable income, web sites will need to display information and data using the lowest common denominator.
What if content providers agreed to use sub domains as a way to compartmentalize information.
So for the site www.whateverporn.com
All x rated content like videos and images could be served from a separate address adult.whateverporn.com, or xxx.whateverporn.com.
Quick! While you still know everything - move out of the house!
Couldn't resist
Interesting, I like this train of thought.

Timex Sinclair 1000 - hated the keyboard.

Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water.
Listen to this:
Teach Yourself Unix in . . . 23 . . . Hours
Exactly.
Use the auto industry as an example.

Does that number include the lost productivity and downtime from downloading and installing security upgrades?

Perhaps we should call it an 'internet boink'
