  1. Journalism on Feds Overstate Software Piracy's Link To Terrorism · · Score: 0, Troll

The, umm, 'journalist' makes assumptions too since the Attorney didn't present any evidence, it must therefore be a lie. I would consider this unethical in the field of journalism. But then again, this is SlashDot, the home of assumptions and using 0.001% to mean 'everyone'.

  2. Biased? on Windows Vista SP1 Meeting Sour Reception In Places · · Score: 2, Interesting

Most of us have to use Microsoft products in one way or another. It would be nice if SlashDot wasn't so blatantly negative and biased towards them. Or can some one recommend a technology news site that gives me a fair assessment of cool stuff?

  3. What If? on World of Warcraft's Brand New Rootkit · · Score: 1

... a blizzard employee had access to the source code of the WoW Client and could sneak in something just directly like that? Oh wait, all the programmers have access to the WoW Client code and can already do that. Oh wait, all programmers of all games have access to all code and could sneak in something during a patch of any game that could easily just get run one in a million times and completely avoid normal detection. I swear, journalism like this along with normal news articles that lead out "The was not caused by a terrorist act." where we are so paranoid about everything, just means it is time to shut down the internet and hide in our 1960s bomb shelters.

  4. Boo Frickin Hoo on Linux Users Banned From World of Warcraft? · · Score: 1

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/technology .html Clearly states windows or mac. Those of you who choose to buy the game to play on an environment clearly not supported by the company play at your own risk. But don't whine about it when something goes wrong.

  5. Re:Odd feeling on Tainted "Piracy" Statistics · · Score: 1

Yes, this article just seems to be some ramblings of people shooting at a dart saying that 'we don't know what the numbers are'. I've watched my products get pirated by a factor of 10 times over sales, and you can't tell me that piracy is running wild?

  6. Folding GPU not friendly on Slashback: IceWeasel, Online Gambling, GPU Folding, Evolution · · Score: 1

The Folding@Home GPU really hurts my computer's performance - it doesn't play well in terms of idle / background threading, and about a week into it, my computer got to the point where I needed to reboot it to restore functionality. Not sure if it driver leaks, bad implmenation, or what, but not the greatest experience I've ever had.

  7. SlingBox FTW on ESPN Mobile Reaches The End Of The Road · · Score: 1

SlingBox mobile version is pretty cool - can't say I use it all that often, but when traveling or stuck some place, it is nice to have.

  8. Auto-extending the auction after the last bid? on How to Win on Ebay: Snipe · · Score: 2, Insightful

Real life auctions don't have a set time to bid upon them - they keep going until after no one bids for a while. What if you were to extend this to ebay? i.e. I try to snipe at the last 30 seconds of the normal ending time, but that automatically extends the auction by 10 minutes or so. Would that solve all issues? ( beyond the fact that you could extend it forever, but I'm sure that could be solved ).

  9. Slingbox on TiVo to Let Users Record Shows Via Cellphone · · Score: 1

http://www.slingmedia.com/ I just got a Slingbox last week - allows you to stream a video signal over your lan / internet as well as control the device it is hooked up to ( in my case, a ReplayTV ) - works pretty well, you need about 300kbits for internet streaming.

  10. Lacks standard journalism skills on The Pointlessness of Current Videogame Journalism · · Score: 1

As a developer in the video game industry, every year I'm disappointed in the consistency of reviews as well as general fact checking. I've had a reviewer downgrade the score of one of my games because his cd rom drive was faulty. Recently, a review completely made up a name of a developer on the game, switched the job positions of another role, as from doing an 'interview' - well, some one wasn't paying attention. Generally, most previews of games have 'facts' that are completely made up. This later hurts us because we are now not 'including features promised'. In all, the whole video game journalism industry is a bit corrupt, in that they know that if reviews are too low, they won't get ad revenue.
