I assumed it was because they were near the harbor, and sold freight that came off the boat.

Maybe I'm being too logical here, but it sorta makes sense.

Now, they're everywhere, so the colorado stores aren't so logically named.

There have been dozens of prior studies which had various flaws. This is the largest well-formed study I'm aware of.

Similarly, studies of say accupuncture, where it is difficult to hide the treatment from patients have been typically poorly formed. One interesting study I saw recently uses bogus needles so patients believe they are receiving treatment, but are actually not. The doctor would have to be unaware but this isn't possible in this case for it to be double-blind.

I've become much less dogmatic about things as I've grown older. I used to be brutally honest about everything all the time, and encourage everyone else to do the same.

I'm still more open than most, but accept that pragmatism is sometimes the better part of valor. The type of women I'm drawn to aren't easily freaked out, but some of my friends definitely need to keep their filthy natures on the lowdown to avoid unnecessary relationship friction.

Personally, I think many problems can be avoided by being honest about human nature. We will always be attracted to other people. I think this can be handled in a healthy manner. Not everyone shares this perspective, and I've grown to accept that. I live my way, they live theirs.

Seriously though, I thought there was a lot of unused fiber around, and it's just not that expensive to add more bandwidth. Obviously there isn't enough for everyone to saturate a huge pipe 24/7 right now, but if demand spikes there are ways to increase supply. I'm doing my part by keeping my pipe flowing full blast with about 99.95% uptime, although upload saturates way before download. Yeah, I've got DSL.

I don't know about this reasoning.

Smokers, obese, and inactive people die younger than healthy people, right? So they need healthcare for fewer years. If they need twice the healthcare for 1/3 the number of "health care intensive" years it saves money.

I've never seen a study of the numbers, but my healthy grandpa used up much more healthcare than my smokin' uncle. Every time I've seen somebody blandly state that unhealthy living "costs society money" they ignore the shorter lifespan, and the fact that most people (healthy or not) need intensive healthcare towards the end of their life.
