I agree totally. I use a Dell axim and a small Samsung flip phone. They both fit in the same pocket easily. And I don't have to worry the battery since my dell lasts for days just like my phone. Combined features beat the iphony and both are around 4 years old.

Witholding evidence has always been a sketchy. But there should be a warrant in order for it to be considered a crime. Just because it is digital, it still has the value of any other physical evidence. So why is this news? Isn't this issue closed? I mean if the court asks you for evidence, you give them evidence. Simple. You are innocent till proven guilty.

  3. Re:Pretty crappy door IMO on Flawed Survey Suggests XP More Secure Than Vista · · Score: 1

First off like an earlier comment said, an AV is not a lock or door, but it is rather like birth control. It is an intrusion detection service (IDS). The proper term is Host based IDS and most anti-virus systems are application based. And, IDS is an optional component for the reason that application based IDS used to be (and still is for the most part) considered a draw on the processor. Now as for microsoft not installing it is because they want to profit from it as they do Microsoft office (not installed automatically). Microsoft expects that their firewall (the actual lock!) should protect you just long enough to give you time to get an IDS of some sort.
Think of it this way, if you buy a house you have a lock right? Yes, but does it have an alarm? NO. In effect, those who make this Application based IDS systems call them Alarms like Zone Alarm for example. As the name applies it is an Alarm. If your IDS is able to delete or quarintine it is like having a bull dog. Some viruses can actually bypass IDS by making themselves look different. Microsoft could use this fact to claim AV is not a viable protection tool. Or they could just say they simply do not have the resources to keep up with current virus definitions. The study probably used a IDS to detect which OS did the best for blocking viruses. IDS is for detection and destruction, not protection. Think of it as birth control. You can use it without a firewall(condom), but one of those little viruses (sperm) may just make it to your directory(egg). =)
Finally,The writer of the article is most likely trying to find an excuse to bash this report for personal(revenge, fanboy, etc.), he works for microsoft, or his company is in bed with microsoft.

This comment is not funny. The author of the linked article is plainly being taken out of context. He states later in the article that windows versions have *never* reduced overhead with new releases. I would have to disagree with this too because windows 95 had a little bit more overhead than windows 98. But thats just my opinion. If one requires less overhead than one simply requires a more suitable OS. If one likes more preloaded APIs then go for windows.

Why is Vonage taking the flame for VOIP? Isn't there other buisnesses out there that allow people to use the public phone lines for comunication from computer to phone. I use skype which does not have a monthly payment(12 months for $24 for an phone number and voicemail)and 2 cents a minute for calls made in the US. Also, I do enjoy the video phone functionality of it.

Well then the groups who parade around saying linux is so wonderful and cheap should be very worried about this. They should stop rambling on about it as a free, cure all, OS. Of course, as my high school economics teacher once told me "There is no such thing as a free lunch" but perhaps a cheaper and possibly less convenient lunch (or 20 years in Siberia ;)

Not internal hardware. I am pointing out the lack of support for common use devices such as printers and web cams. The reason for this, as stated in my comment, is that these poor schools and businesses do not worry about running windows on a macintosh. And check your spelling next time, it's windows not windoze.

  8. Linux is not the solution....yet on Teacher Avoids Getting Sent to Siberia For Piracy · · Score: 1, Redundant

Until Linux is completely compatible with ALL DEVICES there is no way a school or corporation is going to use it as an independent OS. Some may say hey there are several devices out there that are cheap and compatible. But already having a device is cheaper than spending more to dispose of said device and replacing it. Windows is known for its compatibility. I have a machine with the latest distro of Ubuntu, and it cannot print or use my camera. These devices are the cheapest out there including a 20$ Lexmark and a 10$ web camera. Now I know that with all the money you spend on Windows software could go towards replacement of said printer or camera. But if you can pirate a version of Windows for free than you can pay your teachers better, get new books, buy paper and other supplies for your printers, building maintenance, etc. This is the most likely reason for the piracy of Windows. The solution for this is to have those who say let's send this school several copies of ubuntu to go and work with the device makers out there to make drivers. I noticed there are several drivers already out there, there just isn't complete support . So get out there and put your money where your mouth is!

Ipod is going down as bunch of non thinking consumer bought product of the century. As for the levy thing, Canada is mean for putting levies on products. Why can't they be more like the U.S. and have there indivual region-states control product taxes and a low federal tax. 25$ is crazy. I have no idea what a levy is besides it is a type of tax.
