The article was very interesting, for those that actually RTFA. The article definitely brought back memories. On another note, did the GovWorks logo remind anyone else of the NetBSD logo?
Why do you think you only had to upgrade a single package to get this fixed? It's because zlib is dynamically linked into the other programs. You would only need to rebuild all of your packages if you had zlib statically linked into your programs, which isn't done by anyone (even the bsd/gentoo folks) who isn't insane. Right now i'm using Gentoo, and all I had to do was update zlib which didn't take more than a couple minutes.
From the article: "Guy Steele leads a small team of researchers in Burlington, Massachusetts, who are taking on an enormous challenge -- create a programming language better than Java."
I tried to think of a witty aside, but I realized I didn't have to.

Adblock is used to block banners, something that the adblock feature of the google toolbar does not do.
It looks like there's a big ink stain somewhere in the Sahara.
Probably the funniest slashdot post I've seen :)
I'm afraid there are a bit more than that.
Here's a (rather bad) Big Bang joke I heard the other day:
Q: What caused the Big Bang?
A: God accidentally divided by zero.
Christianity isn't even the *dominant* religion on the planet, in terms of number of believers.
Actually, it is
