This is the first time I've complained about spelling or grammar on/. in a long time.
What is really annoying is that every time I see "to" I instantly think "going somewhere".
So when I see/read "to-common" I think they mean they are going to common.
That is what kills me when I read things that have their to and toos mixed up.
Yes, when the game companies started doing this a few years ago I was appalled but not surprised. It is just more of the dicklessness that is the calling card of Korporate Amerika.
I pay for something but then can't enjoy it unless I have a connection to the internet? WTF?!?
Yes, I understand not all games are like this, but it gets worse every year.
because customers are too used to computers not working
Go ahead and down mod me, but I don't think that is a bad thing... At one point in my career I worked at a PCI compliant company that handled CC transactions, and I was astounded at the "bailing wire and duct tape" way those CC transactions happened... Things would stop working quite regularly. It gave me a whole new insight into what happens when you swipe your card, standing there blissfully unaware of what it takes for things behind the scenes to work.
It really is quite a miracle that a lot of this shit works at all.
So, I don't think it is a bad thing for people to be used to some downtime.
It wouldn't just devastate their economy, it would dislodge the Chinese Communist Party from power. They are in a precarious situation already... If the boat got rocked too hard China would be in much deeper shit than the US.
Yea, I love it when people throw that "China owns us" bullshit.
Look closely at China and you will see they are barely in control of their own situation...
If you're even a mild Tolkien fan it is worth seeing.
Visually it is quite stunning.
However, with that being said, can the three PJ Hobbit films, taken as a whole, be considered absolute and unadulterated crap?
Well of course.
The first one was just lame and way too long.
The second one sucked bigtime and was way too long.
The third one isn't bad, and was way too long.
At the beginning of the third one is a scene where the members of the White Council show up to find out why Gandalf has been at Dol Guldur so long... It is wayyy videogamed out, but actually kind of a cool scene.
I'm a huge Tolkien fan, and when I see these I have to assume I'm watching someone play a game...
Yea, what would be classic is if another threat popped up like last time.
What would Sony and the theatres do then?
Would they cancel again or cowboy the fuck up and show it.
I know it's hard to believe, but there are independent films being put out all the time that are great. Interesting plots, great acting, interesting as hell, with very little if any CGI/splosions...
Netflix has tons of these types of films, as well as your local independent film venue.
Those groups I "give credit" to are huge. I don't hesitate for a moment that there are members of those groups who have the intelligence at hand and the foresight to see where things are going and to prepare for them. Lumping everyone in those groups as either/or doesn't make sense.
My point is that eventually in this century more and more people, especially in the First World, will lose their jobs dues to technologies endless march.
Not sure where you get the "defining yourself as against something" either. The end of my post asks a question. Can you answer it?
Also, and most importantly, with all the arguments about whether true AI will ever really come about, etc really have no bearing at all on how technology will continue to destroy jobs. There is no denying that. From self checkout at the supermarket to self driving delivery trucks to kiosk style fast food to software that writes sports articles online. It is all coming, and none of it requires true AI.
I'd rather be a nerf herder.

The all-to-common formula
I'm usually not the grammar/spelling nazi type, but I'm REALLY getting tired of people not knowing the difference between to and too.
WTF?!?
I'm a Tolkien fanboy, and I was pleasantly surprised at PJ's LOTR films.
Especially ROTK, which was incredible.
However, The Hobbit films are really forgettable, except for a few great scenes here and there, which are about %20 of the total.
That is the truth.
I read The Hobbit when I was about 8-9, and LOTR when I was about 12-13.
It is one of the things that got me into reading for sure.
If you're even a mild Tolkien fan it is worth seeing.

4-6 sucked bigtime...
And here we have probably the most insightful post in the thread.
The attention span of people now is incredibly short, hence splosions.
It's only going to get worse.

Tell that to Peter Jackson and his shite Hobbit films.
a study has shown that people who read text on a tablet before bed are douchebags
It is 2014... This could be the 21st centuries WWI.
Why, they don't want their new album to be streamed to the PRK?
Homeless Shelter?
Perhaps it is the PRC giving Jong Uno a little spanking...
The blame?
when the PHB adopts a tone of condescending smugness to assert misinformed, ill-reasoned opinions?
Gygax could come across like that sometimes...
I don't follow or watch movies in general
Wow.
I used the phrase "thinkers", not "elites".

Not sure what narrative you're alluding to.
