    My first and only Android experience is my GS3. I love it and think it is a great device. So many cool apps, so powerful, easy to use, phone sounds great, etc; However, with that being said, yes, the way the device came pre-loaded with Sprint garbage was atrocious. And how these devices tie in to Google...

    First off you can't realistically use an Android device unless it is at least rooted.

    If its not rooted and you can manage apps and permissions, then you are a sitting duck for crapware, etc;

    Secondly, and only after the difficult process of rooting was accomplished did I realize that rooting alone is just a first step.
    The only real way to use an Android device is with some modded ROM such as Cyanogenmod.
    The absolute filth that is pre-loaded onto the phone company supplied devices(my experience is only with Sprint and Samsung GS3) defies description(actually I did just describe it...)

    Yet, it is amazing how many people I see running pre-loaded stock Android devices and blissfully are unaware of any of the security issues, etc;

    I hadn't been to www.streamingsoon.com for a while. Well, I just went there and lo and behold NF has shut down Andrews' access:

    Netflix has decided to make changes to its Application Programming Interface (API). These changes include eliminating the database (called the OData catalog) that Streaming Soon uses to inform you of new and upcoming content on Netflix. You can read more about it here. Sadly, this means the end of the line for Streaming Soon, unless Netflix reactivates this database. If you would like to send an e-mail to Netflix about this, please direct it to publicapi@netflix.com Thank you for your support over the years. It has been a pleasure enhancing your Netflix experience.

    That sucks...
    Hopefully they will allow it again in the future.

    Also, personally I don't get watching anything on a small screen. When I sit down to watch something from NF I watch it on a 52" lcd and enjoy that. I don't get this "culture" of watching quality films or television on a small screen, especially when it requires an OS that requires something else to stream and watch the video.

    The way I read that snippet from Forbes is this:
    Big Data will allow Google, Facebook, China, the NSA(The Data-Industrial Complex), etc to monitor and control where we work, for how much, what we know, what we read, what we eat, what we listen to, where we go to school, etc; etc;

    It really is brilliant in how it is being implemented via "social" networking and the increasing acceptance that privacy is lost.
    Convenience and the addiction to FOMO(Fear of Misssing Out) have turned modern society into crack heads on a global scale.

    Forbes and the cheerleaders for Big Data are "easing us in" to the new Police State. As the years tick by and more and more people are using things like Google Glass, "social" networking and the pressure to cave in to it's reach into our private lives, our private thoughts, the amount of data that will be generated on each person will explode.

    As we sit here, "dossiers" are created for each of us that would make the most ardent Stasi agent blush.
    That is Big Data.

    It seems to me that someone can write a decent sentence and paragraph if they read regularly. If someone reads well written articles, columns, stories, histories, novels, etc; then that person will usually have an "inherent" ability to write a passable sentence, paragraph, argument, etc;.

    You can now get the fuck off my lawn as I lament the fact that(gots to have some exaggeration and hyperbole) no one reads anymore:
    Unless it is a few pages or less, and more likely 140 characters or less.

    A young relative of mine who is is college right now complained about how much reading they had to do for classes. I asked if they ever read on their free time for fun, you know, even something like "Harry Potter". They said no. I have since discovered that this is the norm for the Gen Y and Z folks. Reading on your free time is now considered very anachronistic and unhip.
