And watch this get modded "Troll" since I used the inflammatory "Planned Parenthood / Abortion" example by people who can't actually debate the actual topic.

I don't know enough to discuss the example you provided, but can offer that the funding/expense for Planned Parenthood is probably more complicated than what you proposed and certainly open to skewed interpretation (especially by those opposed to their services -- specifically and, apparently, as a whole) as described by this article from Fact Check: http://www.factcheck.org/2015/...

Journalists need a minimum of two anonymous sources to report something as factual to the public. Three anonymous sources is probably CYA from a #FakeNews accusation.

On the other hand, what's the standard for getting #RealNews from our new administration? Seems the more sources they provide, the less "real" their news and facts are. Hmm... Let me do some math... Maybe zero administration sources are needed.

  3. The US had a good quality education before they had a department of education

Probably specifically, but not universally, true. One purpose of the Dept of Ed is to promote standards and uniformity for (hopefully) good quality education for the entire country. This helps (or should help) graduates compete for jobs anywhere in the US, not just in their immediate locality.

  4. The US department of education was enacted on October 17, 1979, it began operating on May 4, 1980 a full decade after the US sent people to the moon and back.

Now I'm confused. That relates to this (admittedly non-sequitur) thread how?

University -> lack of critical thought -> Dept of Ed -> DeVos -> Grizzly Bears -> Sarah Palin ( -> lack of critical thought)

From the Washington Post article I referenced:

PolitiFact uncovered two more bankruptcies filed after 1992, totaling six. Trump Hotels and Casinos Resorts filed for bankruptcy again in 2004, after accruing about $1.8 billion in debt. Trump Entertainment Resorts also declared bankruptcy in 2009, after being hit hard during the 2008 recession.

Why the discrepancy? Perhaps this will give us an idea: Trump told Washington Post reporters that he counted the first three bankruptcies as just one.

  7. Universities are currently where critical thinking goes to die in in many departments.

Yes, Trump (the biggest snowflake of all) and his followers are easily upset by things like the Truth and "things they don't like / understand".

The problem is that the NYT no longer meets their motto of "all the news that fits, we print" (apparently it's not "fit to print", but that's a quibble).

Of course you realize (and for those that don't actually know) that the actual quote is, "All the News That's Fit to Print" (printed in a box in the upper left hand corner of the front page on the physical paper since about 1896) and what you quoted is a really old joke.

    From The New York Times:

The paper's motto, "All the News That's Fit to Print", appears in the upper left-hand corner of the front page.

I'm pretty sure that how most on-line subscriptions, like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc... work except that some of these are one month for free. After that, you have to cancel to prevent getting charged.

Isn't this sort of thing just kowtowing to Trumps use of "failing" every time he mentions the New York Times in tweets or press conferences? We all know why he does that - spread enough misinformation about a companies situation and eventually enough people get spooked to make it true. The numbers don't show a failing company, they merely show a transitional one.

  18. Wouldn't that keep the phone from sending audio out the built-in speakers? Only sounds useful if you're also using bluetooth to send it to a receiver...that might also have FM built-in.

I noted in an earlier post that, at least, the NextRadio app can output to the phone speaker instead of the headphone, so that antenna should work okay like that, though the speaker output obviously isn't stereo.

  19. My smartphone has an FM radio app in it (as have all my previous ones), but I am unlikely to use it.

It requires the use of wired earphones because the wire acts as the FM radio antenna.

Not sure about all apps, but the NextRadio app can play through the speaker while using the headphone wires for the antenna. In addition, it doesn't have to be headphones. I use it to output the radio on my phone to my PC speakers through the PC audio-in jack while at work where streaming isn't allowed.

As for silencing people, didn't Steve Bannon just tell the press to "keep its mouth shut"?

More to the point, your arguments are incomplete. Both sides are guilty wanting "safe spaces" because the other side is (at least a little) intolerant and is trying to silence the other side. Trump voters want safe spaces on college campus 'cause Liberals are "mean to them", and Liberals want them to avoid hateful, racist, homophobic speech and other things they don't want to hear -- of course, College is the place one is supposed to be exposed to things that challenge and foster independent thought.

Lastly, Liberals would rather Conservative stop calling them "snowflakes" for expressing their concerns because, seriously, if *anyone* is a snowflake, it's Trump himself and those around him.
