I'm wondering the same thing, how the hell can they get servers own by different entities. Does the warrant not require a specific person to be raided?
These FBI went to far on this one and the job who approved this is a idiot.
This is nuts, every server in a data center? do they realize the cost that might incur to all these non infringing companies? The wolverine leak nothing, no one was deprived of anything so there is no monetary loss but this? This is plain incredible. Good job FBI, you just caused many people a lot of trouble for a stupid movie.
Whitehurst gets it. He can't make a buck in it right now so he won't attempt it. While I think Ubuntu will succeed in making themselves into the desktop commercial distro with cannonical. They won't make money for a while. I wish Red Hat would develop tools to manage Linux desktop like Ubuntu and fedora. They could be AD for the Linux world.
Exactly, mod this guy up. The best managers will no arbitrate a technical debate but push the technical talent to resolve the issue quickly and efficiently. If two programmers argue about how to implement a certain feature technically, the manager should help them find middle ground to agree on while not assuming that he has the domain knowledge to choose between the two options. If to resolve the issue or advance a project, more resources are required than it's his job to find a way to get those resources.
At the same time it would be good for him to ensure that the project does not deviate from the original goal. That doesn't require technical understanding of the project in most cases.
Yeah Ph.D in CS is really meant for those interested in continuing in research. While a CS Ph.D might still be good for many thing. They both will work in whatever you want to do. It's all up to you to fill in the gap you missed in school.
I don't see why it couldn't be a first choice for many developers. Objective-C might be used for more complex task while ruby is the main language used to develop applications.
Nothing wrong with that, I've seen places run well with Gentoo.
But Ubuntu is no different then running a Debian shop and alot of company where or are debian shops.
Red Hat is a great choice in many cases and learning it is a good thing. If only fo for the fact that the enterprise software industry standardizes on it.
I'm an apt/dpkg fan but yum/rpm can handle itself fine. Now if someone would standardize/etc locations of config file, that be great.
They want to be agnostic, sell you support for everything. They don't care what you run, they have some non-native english speaker somewhere that can help you with it.
Basically this is what WoW has been able to do for all these years making mad money. You tie the license to an account. But it's true that online games are the only winners of this strategy.
This is not intrusive either and does not prevent you from installing the game everywhere you want.
I approve.
yeah it's a little sad that these guys are hoarding this info for so long just to win a stupid contest. And he only had to use one of these exploits. What else is he's hoarding for next year?
Just saying that that might be of interest to someone with time to get his macbook ya know;p he does carry around to many countries.
Here an idea. Why not promote RHEL as a way to manage Fedora(or Ubuntu no reason why not) desktops. You offer free desktop but the network management tools come in a supported distribution.
Actually, support ubuntu and let the desktop be supported by Canonical commercially.
Red Hat would loose no business this way.
But CentOS is in no way affiliated with Red Hat. All they share is the code.
CentOS is fine if you want to go the free route but redhat is pretty cheap. We order Red Hat licenses by the dozen for our University.
All Oracle servers here run on Sun because of legacy I guess.
But the software is catching up quick. CPA now days can almost do away with staff cause they can use computer to do the work. CPAs won't go away but anything bellow that will.

Probably in google's cache somewhere now.

2004? Ever heard of smalltalk?

And I would not have a job fixing them ;p OSX has plenty of bugs to keep me busy.

Good, KDE sucks.

Well you know, After the British and the french failed, the US should have taken a clue.
Seriously any Old Guard DBA will put MySQL in the toy category.

I will now have to quote this patent in every patent discussion ever to come about on any internet website or discussion. Please do the same.
Dollars are meaningless GIVE ME RAW SPEED!!!!
I don't get the numbers. What made up the gap?
Assuming they don't move you all to Advanced Combat Systems.
Yeah, I couldn't hack it so I switched to Pure Math. Fuck that was a mistake ;p
I'd mod you interesting if you had no forgotten Linux.
