  1. In another story... on Electric Companies Get Involved With Broadband · · Score: 1
The electric companies, excited with new possibilities, have decided to experiment further.

"The powerline can be used with tiny solar cells on the wires to generate electricity, as they are being laid. We had been wasting the solar energy all along, and this will contribute to the net electricity generation" the spokesman said.

"We are looking into possibility of channeling heat from hotter areas of North America to colder areas like Canada or North USA, through power lines. Afterall they are metal wire and good conductors of heat. This will reduce the electricity consumpsion, and we will have surplus power. Also, we have pilot project ready to use power lines as ropeways", He added, "which will not only reduce traffic problems but make the world accident free."

Apart from all the problems you have listed, IMHO, there is an interesting possibility that, Java might become useless if Sun Microsystem does not make it FOSS.

Java provides a unique advantage of "Write once run everywhere". JVM provides a layer above real OS, so that bytecodes see the VM on which they are running.

Similar (or better) advantage is available on Linux. For example, gnome need not be rewritten to make it run on different machines. The programs written once can run on any machine running Linux. Only difference is, you have a real OS, instead of VM.

Recently, I installed Linux on Intel Mac Mini, and found how easily I could recompile whatever I needed.

It is known and Microsoft will not give up with their evil marketing tactics.

This move, however, will not hurt the community as much as the 'kylix'. Borland has dropped support/development of this wonderful product for Linux due to the pressure from Microsoft.

    Read This

    From TFA:

Needless to say, this step is a heavy blow for all companies and individuals which have invested time and money in Kylix-based projects on Linux.

It has been claimed that this was the result of a non-public agreement with Microsoft, where Borland would abandon all products for Linux in exchange for receiving .NET based technology from Microsoft. This would indeed be a clever move by Microsoft because it (1) binds Borland to Windows and (2) disrupts the possibility of a Visual-Basic-like programming-tool being available on Linux.

People like me hate M$ for what they have done to Kylix. Hope google will be able to kick their ass.

In a biology class, the prof was discussing the high glucose levels found in semen.

A young female (freshman) raised her hand and asked "If I understand, you're saying there is a lot of glucose, as in sugar, in male semen?"

"That's correct", responded the prof, going on to add statistical info.

Raising her hand again, the girl asked, "Then why doesn't it taste sweet?"

After a stunned silence, the whole class burst out laughing, the poor girls face turned bright red, and as she realized exactly what she had inadvertently said (or rather implied), she picked up her books without a word and walked out of class...and never returned.

However, as she was going out the door, the Profs reply was classic... Totally straight-faced he answered her question, he stated "It doesn't taste sweet, because the taste-buds for sweetness are on the tip of your tongue".

(correct me please, if I am wrong). We will have means to generate electricity, which can reach train through electrified tracks.

Probably, Japanese are trying to build tomorrow's small trains that will run on fuel cells. (Fuel cell based automobiles are already designed and demonstrated).
