    Frankly, I'm confused why Microsoft thinks it needs to be designing a music player in the first place. This company enters so many markets for no valid reason

    This is world conspiracy against Microsoft, and the poor guys are falling for it again and again. Netscape did it. RealPlayer did it. Borland did it. Oracle did it. Sun did it. Google did it. and now Apple is doing it.

    They will keep coming with different ideas, and will force Microsoft to divert their attention. Microsoft has to dedicate resources to understand new concepts, copy the idea, re-innovate it, and market it and keep finding new techniques to kill^H^H^H^Hdrive the original companies out of market.

    This is conspiracy against Microsoft, I tell you.

    The mission statement looks kool, but does not explain WTF 'independent' means. Am I qualified if I am running a startup?

    End of the day,seems to be a good effort to bring quality software to us.

    Your insightful observation is precise. Comments like this make slashdot what it is.

    After going through BS with 5 different organizations (including govt), I have come to similar conclusion and settled down with a startup.

    I would add a little extra to your wonderful comments... Working with big organizations allow you breathe a lot, if (as you have pointed out) you adopt their culture. So join something similar, if you want to have lot of fun with less pressure.

    Please mod parent up, if you agree with me.

    Hell, even IBM doesn't seem to want Vista

    Where did you hear that? Last time I checked with IBM, they were very very happy with M$ burried in Vista, spending loads of cash on that OS. That leaves rest of the world in peace.

    Imagine what the world will be if Steve Balmer had nothing else to do, he might try to bring the culture of throwing chairs in office. Imagine the marketing team sitting in front of CEOs of other companies forcing^H^H^H^H^H^H^H convincing them something like "If you promise to throw chairs 10 times a day, we offer you 10 licenses of Windows XP free".

    Yes, I agree.

    Microsoft is fscking stupid. My friend bought Toshiba laptop, which has that fscking shiny Microsoft Genuine Product sticker on it. He never reinstalled windows (even from the CDs provided by Toshiba).

    He tried to install spyware from their web site and he was asked go away telling him that the product is not genuine. I removed Windows from his laptop and installed Ubuntu. He has vowed not to use Windows anymore..

    One more convert:P
