Wouldn't it be best to reduce oil consumption quickly by replacing SUVs with fuel efficient cars. City cars with busses, mass transit, and electric cars, and long distance freight transportation from trucks to trains, which could ultimatively run on electricity too.

According to most comments here, the (I assume) US police force is not trying to solve crimes by collecting evidence, but instead they are only trying to get a maximum of convictions. If so, I wonder why there are no protests about it. The police force is part of the executive of a state. They are necessary to ensure the monopoly of power in the state and represent one pillar of a modern free democracy. They must adhere the law (even if it sucks), but they must not try to impress statistically. That would be a real considerable bias. Even in a police state you try to direct the suppression towards criminals and people who oppose the government, but the accusations here point to random (may be race biased) behavior. That would imply a broken system. So can someone explain why there are no demonstrations? Every day? Until the government fixes the situation? In the US, I heard, can elect the sheriff of their city. In that case it would be possible to elect someone who wants to fix it.

While they started many expensive building programs to bring people into jobs, this was a) already planned by previous governments and b) a "Keynes" like action to boost economy in an capitalistic way. I do not believe that she is only a puppet. She is doing her job too well. If we can built robots so we can do our work somewhere else then these robots can do simple labor by themselves without being a tele presence device. Tele presence would also require a lot of energy and a lot of resources. To be a truly replacement a large quantity of those devices are needed. In addition, there are already people everywhere on the globe. Why not let those people do the job who are there? With capitalism this will also not work, as a tele presence device + a human is always more expensive than a human alone. For caring jobs such devices would not work, as humans require humans. For brain jobs, we already have tele presence in form of Internet video conferences. Even if we would have machines for tele presence or goggles it is not the same as with humans. I know many technology freaks do not understand that fact and therefore they deny it. However, human interaction is very important.
Working remotely is not widespread. We in the tech industry and science do it. However, we still have personal meetings. And this is not going away, as see above.
The money things is also very strange. I live in the EU. We have this Euro currency. However, I still feel the same way about my origin (Swabian, German, European) as before they introduced the Euro. It is just money. An money is good for paying things, but it is not part of my identity. True in the UK, they also "use" it unofficially which does not stop them to post it also in Celcius.
This still results in almost everyone uses Celcius while the US and some other minor territories use Fahrenheit. With approx 7 billion people on earth and only 0.4-0.5 billion Fahrenheit users make this a 13:1 - 16.5:1 relation. We have been told that the US is an innovative country so why are they not able to switch to or at least acknowledge that the metric system is everywhere else. One acknowledgement would be on an international website to use (at least) both scales.
Obviously I am able to translate Fahrenheit in Celcius. However, it is an extra effort everyone has to do who lives not in the US. Therefore, it would be more helpful to the readers if the authors could just make that translation. If it takes only 5 min for Fahrenheit it could not be that much more difficult to go in the other direction. On a side note: 6.5 billion people live in a metric/celcius world and only 0.5 billions (or less) live in a body parts/Fahrenheit world. This is 13:1 if you need it in a relation.

There is some truth in what you say. Airport security is and will always be not perfect, as it is not possible to realize total security, as long as objects (people and luggage) are allowed to get on board. However, real police officers would be better at the job. They are carefully selected and get years of training before they are policemen (maybe this is different in the US, I don't know.). They are better paid (even though I think they do not get enough for the task they have to perform) and they cannot be pushed around like those rent-a-cop people at the airport. Their only obligation is to do their job right.
On the other side, the private companies try to make a fortune and they must compete with each other. Therefore, they try to become cheaper. In that business this is only possible by buying cheaper equipment, but there are limits to that as minimal standards are applied in that area. Therefore, the only option is in pay and training. The result is obvious.
