Which words, pictures, animations, gestures or mimics can be used is determined by the context. That's why you cannot and should not try to fix impolite or otherwise rude behavior with technology. However, you should try to behave (depending on the context). And you should do so even if someone else in the same communication context does not.

    For example:
    - A(very agitated) calls B a liar (however B is not)
    - B could either say something like: "fuck you"
or "this is rubbish and you know it"

The example might not be the best, but I guess you get the point. It would be preferable if people could use the second option more often.

  2. Re:Let me translate on Facebook Exec: Online Anonymity Must Go Away · · Score: 1

Exactly my thoughts. When people do not behave online, than this is due to bad education. Their parents and others who educate them have failed to make clear that it is not ok to call someone bad names. This is not an acceptable behavior in private contexts and it is not ok in public contexts.

As the Internet comprises public, commercial, leisure and private contexts, the common increase in egotistic, selfish and rude commentary can also be found on the net. So when "Sugarmountain" wants more polite people, he should start to promote social behavior and more cooperation for example real social networking.

If you US citizens are sane then you have to raise taxes for the rich. You should look at the EU. We can provide health care for everyone hat half the cost of the US on a per person basis. Have a look at the OECD report on that subject when you don't trust me. While in Europe the game is "We do not leave anybody behind" the US model is "If everybody cares for himself, then it is cared for everybody". I personally find the first option better.

The US needs to set its priorities right. Which means you have to invest in people and not in Wall Street. And may be you should tear down Fox News and start a democracy with more than two big parties. Maybe it is time for you to look over that Atlantic Oceans and look how Europeans do. There is a lot to learn.

Because the US is not a save place and the US is still more expensive. All parts which are needed for the production are already produced in China so the assembly can take place in China too. And they are selling these devices to all people on the world and the US is just one small country with a money problem. The future markets are in Asia and BTW even Europe is performing better and has a smaller deficit then the US.

For a good figure on how big the budget should be in comparison to the GDP have a look at France, UK or Germany.

We could always use hydrogen to fuel planes. The question is: Is it wise to use planes for short distance travel when we could use more energy efficient personal transportation devices? The electricity has to come from somewhere and we have to go a long distance to rebuild our energy system with renewable energy. Well maybe in the US where we have not a large high speed train net, planes are the only fast mass transportation facility, but in Europe we definitely could use trains as a replacement.

I was on an software engineering workshop on modeling and domain specific languages. After my presentation I said that I think we are not engineers. As of the above situation. We should learn that Information is not always true. Not only from governments, but also inside organizations. We should act accordingly. Meaning: Don't trust information which makes no sense. Why can anyone be charged for installing 3 meter high structures on a playground. Safety at a playground works normally as follows:
    a) One parent or another person in charge observes what the "own" child does. Is it doing unsafe stuff (for its age) then that person in charge has to act.
    b) If the kid is old enough to go to the playground by itself than it has to handle its own safety. Kids are capable of doing so. Parents who deny that, end up with children which cannot handle responsibilities.

What me personal concerns is the fact that the same illness is coming to Germany as well. The world gets redesigned to be save for the stupid and lazy. Instead of insisting on "think before act". Think of it in the US people got money for being too stupid to handle their coffee. Also I heard that they got money for putting a cat in an microwave. In a country not designed for the stupid, any judge would rule in both cases against the idiot.

And ah don't get me wrong this is not an US bashing statement. Even though in Germany spilling coffee is your problem, the design for the stupid principal also applies here.
