I can't recall for sure (Darn memory hole in my head) but i think it was Bill Gates.
In any event whoever said it shot himself in the foot on that one. Their are others who have fallen into the same trap making PC predictions like that. You just never know whats comming down the road that will change things in ways you can't even think of right now.
Making such predictions in an offhanded way like that is a good way to end up eating your hat or pc chip as the case maybe.
Never say never unless the world is ending in.001 seconds and even then something could still happen to prove you wrong. You may not be around anymore to know it but it could still happen;)
The Government of this nation has for some time been run by people most of us in everyday life wouldn't trust to even do our laundry but yet they run our nation.
We need to really get some shaking up done in this nation. I was watching the history channel about our presidents from washington to bush JR. Learned quite a bit about some of them but during FDR's adminestration their was a fear by both FDR and big money that because of how bad it was during the depression that their would be a revolution by the people. Within 4 years big money had forgotten their fear and was apposed to things FDR was doing/saying during election time Prompting his statement that a government run by big money was as bad a one run by mob mentality.
Boy i've said that enough tonight and this but we are worse off now than then because bush and congress are just licking at the heels of both big money and the religious right (your local mob mentality). Looking back at it we were better off with FDR under the depression and WW2 looming than we are today. At least we had a president that was worth a lick unlike bush and clinton.
Not that i wanna defend Clinton (God knows i hate that guy) but if he didn't bush would have anyway. Either way we'd still have gotten here maybe a couple years later but still here.
I believe the issue was having the punishment fit the crime but hey according to you pirating movies/music is a lot more serious and dangerous than some other types of crimes.
Besides i really don't see what the issue is myself copyright is itself an unconstitutional law that only holds up because fair use props it up to make it constitutional. But at the rate the industry is going they'll push fair use into ineffective territory theirby rendering it useless effectivly removing the one prop that makes copyright legal to begin with.
Sure lets send a pirate to jail for three years so they can learn to become a more hardened crimminal. Then when they get out they can put all that nice knowledge thev'e learned to good use robbing and killing the common man.
Nothing like the educational system in jails to teach a person how to be an even bigger threat to society then they were when they went in.
But at least now they will be robbing from and killing the common man instead of stealing copyrighted material from rich fatcats so it's an improvement.

I won't stop anybody from releasing the content via irc or any obscure system to the world but will make it a more criminal act for anybody downloading the content and sharing it during or after doing so. So it doesn't stop the pre-release from getting out but allows them to go after anybody that is stupid enough to share it over p2p or downloading it and sharing the download over same.
So it's like saying if you can't get the guy/girl putting out the pre-release then go after averybody thats stupid enough to share it after the fact.
You know we need some good presidents,senators and congressmen like we had long ago.

I mean you say reliability trumps performance implying intel is more reliable and then in the next sentance say that amd is the realm of gamers and aficiandos. Gamers and aficinados are among the group of geekset that know whats not only the best performing of current machines but also the most reliable i mean seriously you think somebody thats going to use a machine for gaming and that is going to go for a machine thats fast but unreliable or unstable crashing just when they need it most? What kind of.... No no i wont say it.
But i mean really it's just that kind of dilbert managment thinking that ends up sinking companies. I just hope you handle other buisness matters with more intellegence than that post indicates.

Im waiting for the public beta to test it out and decide if i wanna go with winxp 64 bit or wait for longhorn 64 bit. Or how knows linux may come out with a version that finally is easy to use and can run my windows programs and games in wine by then.
But im not holding my breath for that.
Kinda reminds me i need to take a look at linux again to see how it's changed.
Thats kinda the problem none of the companies will do this unless they are forced to.
They have no real compatition because they own the pipes except for in a few select areas whenre the telco/cableco have allowed or rather were forced to allow competitors onto their lines. But even their their's no real encentive since the competator has to pay the telco/cableco that own's the pipe anyway they still make money. So theirs no incentive for them to compete and no compatition comming in because of the high cost of startup IE layng their own fiber lines and aquriering the hardware and servicemen etc.
A muni boradband in this case would introduce compatition. Esspecially if the city or state doesn't directly control the wifi as in the proposed wifi service that Minneapolis wants to have put in. The city bankrolls the startup and the winning bidder puts it in and runs and services it with minimal or no real city or state involvement. IDeally with no no involvment by the local government other than to make sure the company isn't abusing the service or trying to overcharge the customers.
This would keep the cities from direct involvment and force the other companies to compete something they haven't had to do before now.
Yeah it sux having to pay for the startup out of our taxes but if it's what the people want ant what they approve and vote for it's their state and their choice not the private companies who don't have a vote in it anyway as it should be.
I'm a baker by trade pc enthuseist by hobbie. Iv'e assembled many pc's over the years and iv'e played with just about every os made for the pc most of MS's OS's. I remember windows when it was a simple dosshell that came with dos. But that's getting off the subject.
I don't use expensive software made by some big company trying to sell it to other gullible companies im not a company and certainly not a big one.
The person in question isn't a company either it was a private pc. But when a patch corupts a windows install or corupts a hard drive because of it not having a bios update that's definatly not a problem because of some software it's a problem with the OS because of a shoddy ill-written patch.
And thats Microsofts fault not some other unkown software writter's fault.

You see this happen almost everyday our senaters and congressmen meet in the house and senate and vote to decide what to do with taxpayers money. Do we put in muni sewers or have it be privately owned/maintained? Do we have public funded roads or privately funded and maintained roads? etc...
People argue that what should be state or government services are things that are intrinsic rights or rights your born with but last time i checked the right to a sewer to drain away your waste wasn't a right your born with. It's a service that you can live with or live without people have done so ganted not to healthely in the past but have lived without none the less. Also right to health isn't a right your born with just as right to free speach isn't something your born with. It's either a right given by a Group in the nation you live in or not depending on the group or leadership, Dictatorship, Monarchy or whatever but it's not something that you automaticly have it's either given or taken by you or others.
Americans didn't have the right to free speech it wasn't given to us we took it when we took the collonies from the british and gave it to ourselves and called it a right. Freedom isn't free either it's bought and paid for by vigilance. It's not something your automaticly born with it's something given or taken depending on were you just happen to be born. IE in Korea the people are not free they don't have fre speach nor are they in china. It's not a right the leaders of china and korea allowed or gave to their people and they haven't taken it nor given it to themselves. The same goes for free speach they don't have it it was neither taken nor given and until they do decide to take it and give it to themselves they aren't free they don't have fre speach they don't have it to give to themselves or their children.
So the majority rules in this land and thats whats american and to say well im not going to fork over my money just because you all want me to. I think thats what un-american not people wanting cheap or muni wifi. Don't like it fine take the next flight out of the nation and don't let lady liberty kick you on the way out.
The city, State, Nation should do what the majority of the people want them to do not what some companies who aren't even given a vote in politics to begin with want them to do.
It's because the kind of communism your thinking about is impossible to truely implement.
Somebody high up in power will get into power and turn it for their own corupt ends and their fellow commrads or friends will come along for the ride get into places of power and keep all the wealth for themselves while oppressing everyone else to keep them from finding out or riseing up against them in any usefull manor. Or the leader with good intentions will get all this power and become corupt by it and procead to do what the afformentioned group did. Either way it ends up like the Soviet Union or China or North Korea.
Communism looks good on paper but just try to implement it in real life with real people in the mix and you'll quickly see how it goes south in a hurry.

I mean come on now it's MS's shoddy ill-written OS's that are full of bugs (what was it something like over 86,000 in XP) that is why these patchs have to be put out to start with to fix holes in their shoddy OS. And yes i know i have heard the it's impossible to not have bugs in software thats this big before, But you know thats kinda the problem MS's bloated oversized ill-written code a monster thats almost to big to handle so much so that even MS is struggling with it.
Really i remember when SP2 first came out i recall even hearing on Techtv back before the G4 came along and Leo left even they were saying don't upgrade to it because it because it was breaking some programs and was shown to corupt XP installs. Is it any wonder many buisness IT groups dont want to put the patch on their systems when the patch has a reputation like that.
