at first look, no. but then you have to consider (1) that this memory could be aimed toward gamers who want what they paid for, or (2) that this could be proportional to FSB. when you are taking the FSB and jacking it up with a muliplier (a very large one in Intel's case), you want every little Hz you can get out of it.
Disclaimer: I didn't RTFA, and this is what I personally know for experience. correct me if i'm wrong.
I have it set as Firefox's default font. I use it in my Winamp Playlist. It's my font for AIM. Looks great in titlebars. Creates very smooth looking tect on icons and the such. In fact' I'd recommend it for just about anything. All you have to do is turn on ClearType and tweak it. Bam. Good to go. I dunno how it looks to you, but it looks smooth to me.
Yes, you can run your CPU that hot. I have once, then came the nice smell and some blue smoke. All I'm saying is that SOME CPU's fry beyond that point. and not to mention, for a gaming machine with active cooling, this temperature sounds ridiculus. That's absolutely absurd. These numbers would actually make sense if they were in fahrenheit. Thats all I was saying.
Now if everyone could get their heads out of their asses and stop being nitpicky, I'd like you all to note that most computers to be sold retail (as such) would never pass tech inspection running at temperatures like that with active cooling. I may be mistaken, but those chances are slim to none. Once again, those temps just sound crazy high and are unacceptable for a retail gaming machine if they are right.
The Hornet Pro has temp read-outs for CPU & Mobo on the front of the machine. The only time I was able to get the CPU monitor near 95 degree C was by using UT 2004 and maxing out all of the settings. At that point, the CPU hit 93.9 C, while the mobo chugged along at 83.4 C.
I'm sorry, but no. CPU's fry by that point. you may be thinking Fahrenheit.
I had to do the same thing! My Biostar M7NCD Pro wouldnt let me go past 12.5x, so i just put in some really small wires between the pin holes on the mobo. worked wonders. Definitely made an excellent budget overclocker.
I've been using Mobile Athlon XPs for a couple years now. Picked it up on the premise that they ran cooler, on lower voltages, and didn't have a multiplier cap. Worked wonders for hitting an 800MHz overclock on air (2.0 to 2.8). They also seem to work in all the mobos i tried, although some needed a BIOS flash.

It's time to make some big decisions, so the Google guys are slipping on their white lab coats. After eight years in the spotlight running a company that Wall Street values at more than $100 billion, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are still just in their early 30s and, with the stubbornness of youth, perhaps, and the aura of invincibility, keep doing things their way. So the white coats go on when it's time to approve new products. For a few hours, teams of engineers will come forward with their best ideas, hoping to dazzle the most powerful men...

Personally, if GMail, Google Search, Image Search, and Google Desktop are results of things done their way, I'll take more of it; I use all of those on a regular basis.
THIS, is a great idea that I can guaruntee will make money.
Personally, i expect to see one of these im my home. There have always been USB hubs, then there have been the wireless adapters (labelled for printers and such), but never a wireless hub (to my knowledge). WE have a couple digital cameras, a scanner, an external hard drive, and a mouse hooked up through USB. All but the mouse go through a USB 2.0 hub. When we move the laptop, usually we just disconnect the hub. now, it will be possible to just... well... go. =D
I have been using an Athlon since 2001, and then it was an Athlon 600 bundled in a Gateway machine. Now, I have a hand-built gaming rig (yes, lights, window, windowed hard drive, and all. cue flaming.) I believe that once the Athlons started to peak into the 1 GHz range or so, the current numbering mechanism was devised. For just about all of AMD's CPUs, they are given a "P-Rating." This can be referred to as a "Performance Rating" or "Pentium Rating," I have seen both used. Long story short, it was to show that the (for example) Athlon64 3000+ was equal to or greater than a P4 3.000 GHz, even though it is only clocked in at 1.8 GHz.
As for the astronomically-super-high-performance CPUs (dubbed the FX line, think Extreme Edition), they were just given numbers. This caused some confusion, but pretty much bigger numbers were more expensive and went faster.
[opinion]With Intel changing the product name and numbering mechanism, people may become so confused as to just go with an AMD. As I see it, AMD will have the "bigger numbers" and numbers more representative of performance. This gives them an edge, no?[/opinion]
Anyway, no, it will not use AMD naming strategies. They kinda-sorta resemble it, but are not even really all that close.
Bittech also brings us news of what is thought to be the worlds smallest PSU.
yes, it is the world's smallest PSU. sadly, it is not all it is cracked up to be. Yes, it is onlyslightly larger than an ATX connector, has 120W, and is 96% efficient. Until you consider what it is. This is a DC-DC power supply. This means that you will have to supply it with a 12V DC source. Although this is great for people putting computers into cars, it serves little purpose to most others elsewhere.
Call me when you get one that does 120V/240V AC to 12V, 5V, and 3.3V DC.
Everyone knows, for every sticker or light-effect you add to your case, it's an honorary +50Mhz boost!
Sweet.... so i'm overclocked from 1.8 to...... 3.55. Seriously. I have a lot of LED fans, a neon light, 500W PSU, and case badges out the ass.
You mean you can't look directly at it without going blind? Dude, most "overclocker premodded" cases come like that out of the box.
I ACTUALLY HAVE THAT CASE ASSHOLE!!! =P It's the Logisys Dracula Black Special Edition. Picked it up for 70 or so at Newegg.
Seriously though, I actually have that case. And you're not an asshole. And it DOES blind you. And It looks better with red fans instead of blue. XD
Could someone please explain to me what exactly this would accomplish? I understand that it would be possible then to include in distros and such, but why does it matter so much? Yes, it is a hassle to use the binary, but what would be SO MUCH better about the open source drivers? Not trying to be a troll, I just don't understand why it is so important.
So, for $380 bucks, I can get a GPU card that exceed the computing power available to the NSA in the 1980s? Is that about right?
Negative. for 380 bucks, you can pay a psychic to tell you that it was a good idea you didn't waste your money on a GPU so you could brag about having more computing power than the NSA in the 1980s. =P
I am an nvidia guy. I've always liked them over ATi, mainly because of driver support (...but does it run linux? =P) However, I have seen a lack of an AiW type of thing here on this side of the fence. Don't get me wrong, I love my 6600GT. It was an excellent choice for a budget gaming card. However, I am sure many people (HTPC builders, casual users using it for video, etc.) like the AiW very much. It has always seemed to be a great concept that sold well. This time however, ATi took it a step further. They have introduced this AiW series on the budget end of things. This was a VERY smart business move and I predict it will be taken well by the community as a whole.
psht. if you leave the side off, it's noobish. you don't wanna be a n00b do you?
Just as a side note, I actually DO have a case with a window. and a neon light. and chrome RAM. and a chrome power supply. basically, I have a huge e-penis. But I do it for fun. Like a hobby, ya know?

Windows Vista, the successor to Windows XP
Why didn't anyone tell me this before!?!?
... so who do you buy from? I've never had a problem, even with linux drivers for nvidia. A pain in the ass, yes, but at least they support linux.
I would like you to note that AGP is being phased OUT. PCI-Express is being used. not the same as PCI.
