Re:Different Companies, Different Takes

CS vs CIS

I am a CS major at the University of Oklahoma. I am not sure which career fair you are referring to, but there was a campus wide fair (which I did not attend) and an engineering fair (which I did attend). The engineering career fair was held in the OMU ballroom and was completely packed. It would be understandable if companies at the main fair were not looking for CS/CE as both are engineering majors, and the companies were probably waiting until the engineering fair to meet those majors.

In both of these discussions, I noticed comments that had been posted in one had also been posted in the other. I thought it might have been a lack of caffine and sleep, but this raises a lot of questions. Does anyone know if this could be a Slashcode problem or a problem with the MySQL server?
In the mean time, it is good to know that my RealityServer(tm) is working fine.
The Tabloids will surely go far in the music business, considering they're already on their knees for the major labels. This reminded me of a Bill Hicks transcript from Revelations...
That's what we want isn't it, government approved rock n roll?
Whooh, we're partying now!
"We're rock stars who do Pepsi Cola commercials."
Gnorr. Suck Satan's cock. Put that big scaly pecker down your gullet. Drink that black worm jism. Drink it! Fill your little bellies.
I think that the RIAA and like should take a look at Epitonic. I have to say that this is one of my favorite sites and gives a good idea of what the RIAA should be striving for. I'm not sure of their business model or anything like that (I'm a CS major, not Econ/Business/etc), but they put up a couple of complete MP3s for each artist, to let you try them before you buy. Most of the artists are indie, but most of the songs I've downloaded have been pretty good, especially compared to the Top 40 crap on the radio around here.
I'm sure it's been stated several times here, but I think that this is what the RIAA is scared of the most. Why would anyone pay ~$16 for a one over-marketed, over-played, generic, piece-of-crap song when they can now easily find something more interesting outside the RIAA monopolised mainstream?
The thing that prevents the RIAA from making singles available online is that they know that most of their products/artists, are only good for that one song. I think this is why you can almost never find a CD single of a Top 40 artist. They know that if people could buy singles then people wouldn't buy the album unless it was *gasp* actually good.
But you already knew that.. Preaching to the choir...
In the appropriation of intellectual property, myMP3.com, Napster, and Gnutella (which has stolen from the breakfasts of 100 million European children even its name)
I know that this entire speech is being ripped to shreads as we speak, but this left me dumbstruck!
Why not just say, "Napster, which has twisted my favorite activity, napping, into a multi-national conspiracy to destroy the foundation of the Unitied States' economy!
Where have you been living for the past 5 years? I guess it worked for the unknown artists known as Metallica too. Napster actually was stealing food off their cinder block table...
I too can't believe this made Slashdot. I remember seeing a preview of the story a few days ago on the local (Oklahoma City) news, but I guess I didn't "Stay Tuned".
I also agree with others that this was probably the WORST possible move for any university, even more so for a major state university. I'm sure that the authorities involved didn't have the slightest clue that anyone would care that not all dorms are wired or that students are charged for the privilige of dorm room access.
Of course, at the University of Oklahoma, all the dorms are wired;)
I saw this film last year at a local Animation Club showing, and I agree that everyone out there should see this film. It is such a good film that at times I forgot that it was animated, I can't wait to see it in a non-subtitled version. I just wish we could get this kind of animation made in Hollywood. Anyone know where I might get an imported subtitled version?

As one of my instructors once joked, "We write the software for MIS majors to use."

I think relevant in this case...

They don't seem to have any iridium news on their site. Looks like just another nameless, faceless corporation to me.
Praise: This is a COMPLAINT! They ended an auction for legal MS software, no explanatio
Praise: Cancelled auction on legal retail Windows 98 upgrade with contacting me
Praise: Microsoft pirates their own software, allowing full registration, & upgrades????
Praise: Got back to me after ending auction and set things right. Thanks for the help!
Only one of these praises actually contains a positive comment. I guess the praise/neutral ratio should actually be 1/152 and not 4/149!
