i believe a few games supported usb keyboards/mice and there was the linux kit of course.
and i know there was at least one game that supported lan gaming through firewire.
i belive the intention was to turn the PS/2 into a media centre type machine but the closes they got afaict was the linux kit which was expensive and didn't allow the use of the hard drive it came with for anything game related (the physical hard drive was the same as the one they sold for game related stuff but it could only be formatted for one or the other)
what exactly do you mean by "clean water" if its just filtered tap water then wouldn't it be a lot less hassle to get your own filter than cart huge containers of water home all the time?
and thats part of the reason why basically all home users do everything as admin.
i think home user software is far worse in this regard than work software and much software can be massaged into running as non-admin by a sufficiantly competant windows geek but if it comes down to a choice letting users have local admin on thier machines or stopping them using software they rely on to do their job........
all XP sp2 did was add the noexecute stuff that broke a few apps that did more low level stuff (for example nero) but afaict left most normal apps alone (and anyway it can be disabled if nessacery).
wouldn't "bring your own container" be a preferable distribution method? Yeah, it seems kinda "ivory tower pie in the sky" on the one hand, but not totally out there on the other.
this would blur the line between legit copies and pirate copies. Right now there is an obvious physical difference between an original CD and a normal pirate CD (neglecting for now the pirates that actually have access to a CD press).
also a dubious shop could start filling some of the media from pirate copies, customers wouldn't be able to tell the difference and provided they didn't do it all the time there would be very little there supplies could do to spot it either.
I know someone who bought RedHat in 1997 and even after hardware upgrades, have never upgraded the distribution to a newer one - they've been updating the individual packages as needed, the install has been moved from hard drive to hard drive, and yet it bears no reasonable resemblance to any current distribution, nor to RedHat (5, I think?)
the problems i can see with doing that are
1: security: unless you are really keeping a close eye on security mailing lists you are very likley to have missed something. 2: support: how would you support a box like that when there are no others quite like it because of the sheer ammount of upgrading?
i'd imagine a 3 way revolving number plate would be the easiest to make (and thats what all the ones you seen in the movies are). A two way would have no body to it (which would be bad for mechanism mounting) and a 4 or more way one would need to stick up and down from the plate apeture (by more and more if you wanted larger numbers).
1: whist the known patents are licensed for free are the terms of those licenses compatible with free software?
2: apparently the whole area of wavelet based compression is a patent minefield.
jpeg on the other hand has been arround for years and is currently being targeted with a single probablly invalid patent that is due to expire soon anyway.
get something like asterisk (theres a cd called asterisk@home that will do the work of wiping a spare box and setting up a complete asterisk system for you if you so desire).
If you wan't to call pots lines or sip users outside your company through your internet connection then find a SIP or IAX provider to handle those. Alternatively if you don't get the internet bandwidth for that then with suitable cards fitted to the pbx box you can link it to pots lines.
if you wan't to call other skype users then sadly your only real option is to use thier client app.
yes unfortunately such a format would likely take years to reach most of the web browsing population leaving in the meantime a nasty choice between encumbered jpeg and unencumbered but large png.
scanned images unfortunately often don't respond too well to png either because of the noise.
the other problem is that once something is converted to jpeg converting it back to png without ending up with an even bigger file than the jpeg is hard because of the jped artifacts.
how many apps that support tiff only support a tiny subset of tiff types?
with png they deliberately designed a relatively simple compressed image format (the most complex bit probably being the deflate algorithm itself) and specified that compliant decoders should be able to read all variants of it (which generally they do).
The condition got worse over a period of months the more he played console video games. His mother says she knew he was having these seizures but didn't know what was causing them.
any more details? sounds like either she was two incompetant to take him to a doctor about them or the doctor was too incompetent to suggest that video games might be the cause.
be very carefull when trying to minimise the config file for apache like that, you absoloutely MUST take account of the fact that it applies security after mapping to the filesystem or people will be able to use.. in the path to access stuff outside your document root.
afaict there are three main reasons for using apache
1: your already familiar with its configuration format (which i never had too much trouble with myself but some seem to hate) 2: you wan't to use software thats primerally designed to run under an apache module (think most php stuff). 3: you actually wan't the ability to do things like arbitary matches on urls and proxying some dirs to other servers and name based virtual hosting all at the same time.
no it doesn't but if those mice escape and start breeding and someone collects breeds and sells them should that person be liable for patent infringement?
applying patents to something that can self replicate and interbreed with a natural variation of itsself leads to a nightmare scenario in which you can be sued because a customer of the patent holder contaminated your stock!
didn't linking use the firewire port not the usb ports?

don't worry plenty of us english don't spot that little difference in spelling.
there are two potential issues with jpeg2000:
1: whist the known patents are licensed for free are the terms of those licenses compatible with free software?
2: apparently the whole area of wavelet based compression is a patent minefield.
jpeg on the other hand has been arround for years and is currently being targeted with a single probablly invalid patent that is due to expire soon anyway.
diodes don't have to be made out of silicon!!
diodes constructed in different ways out of different semiconductors can have very different properties

afaict after a patent expires people can still be sued for infringements before it expired.
i presume he was reffering to saving from an editing tool not just saving a downloaded file.
whilst there are tools that can perform some operations on jpeg losslessly they aren't all that well known and are quite limited in what they can do.
clarification: .......unfortunately support for such.........

real products also make patent litigation a lot harder to win at because it means you can be forced into cross licensing.
thats why theese litigation firms are so scary to the big companies, they effectively can't be countersued.

ever considered switching to a distro where using the package management tool on the system is the supported way to upgrade?
hmm doesn't the cubic formulae contain a cube root?

IIS was at least until recently considered to be full of security holes. I belive this has improved with version 6 but many still don't trust it.
its also windows only, apache runs on windows most unix and unix like systems and probablly a few others.
