    if you don't like critisicm of apple when they fuck up, then don't read the comments. but don't defend them blindly, otherwise you're an idiot.

    they clearly did the absolute minimum in this case and that doesn't deserve praise by anyones standard.

    brand loyalty needs to die a cruel and horrible death. it is a very irrelevant notion in this day and age. they think of you as organic wallets, and i believe in recipricating.

    sorry to break it to you, but everything becomes that way, even the top 10 supercomputers. and you made a slight mistake... it would be inexpensive-for-the-consumer computers. which makes it easier for them to introduce new models more quickly.

    oh wait.. they're switching.

    clearly, you don't understand. if they switch chips, then they also have the same likelihood of making it a more open platform.

    maybe neither is remotely possible, but if one is, then the other one becomes a possibility at the same probability also.

    amd is a far better cpu company... and they aren't nearly as evil as intel.

    their products also perform far better than the competition.

    apple doesn't need that much volume that AMD cannot provide...

    makes you wonder though, now maybe x86 people can finally have a cheap upgrade path to osx...

    and a higher price point is in what way more appealing towards customers?

    i've always noticed how consoles games were always much more overpriced than pc games. and it took a lot longer for it to come down to a reasonable price. and even then, you'll almost never find good quality console titles for less than 20 or so bucks. while you can find last gen pc games for 10-15 bucks, even 5 or less in your local B&M bargain bins.

    then you have the fact that you have a lot more freedom on your pc to change the game in small and large ways.

    and the fact that you "own" your pc is a big factor. those DRM-encumbered consoles will NEVER compete in that area....

    thats because mainly that your 9650 video card is garbage.

    it doesn't have the fillrate and shader processing power of high end cards with which you can get over 60fps. it might even have a 128bit memory bandwidth, in which case you shouldn't even be getting 23fps.

    why on earth you bought a high end system with a low end video card i'll never know...

    plus as they say, that doom3 is pretty much more optimized for x86 is another reason but not in your particular case.

    i've heard many people say that the batteries cannot be easily replaced... why would anyone send it back to apple just to replace a battery then? why even have that option?

    makes me wonder just what the heck is going on.

    personally, no battery is worth 50 bucks, unless it's a "new(clear)" one.

    yes i do enjoy inexpensive devices and power.

    clearly there are other reasons, of which i have no clue but it definitely isn't for any transition.

    pci-e appears to be superior in every way...

    please don't muck up the standard we computer users use.

    like claiming a 250GB hd to hold 250GB while in reality, it's closer to 230.

    a 1x slot runs at 250 real MB/s bidirectionally.

    a 16x slot is 4 real GB/s bidirectionally.

    how about we compromise:

    have all ipods and other merchandise come with big stickers with the words "BUYER BEWARE" written in big bold red letters.

    that way, you would avert "pointless" lawsuits and keep the customers sufficiently warned.

    frankly, this is warranted in my view.

    yeah it's disgusting that we have to enrich the lawyers but find another way to give the customers back their money/lost value then we can consider that.

    but what kind of a moron would buy a device whose battery cannot be changed?

    usually, devices that take exotic and proprietary batteries cost more in the long run due to the expensive nature of the power source (or having to replace the item in the first place because the vendor made sure most people couldn't replace the battery easily)

    frankly, battery lock-in, like vendor lock-in is BAD.

    plain AA/AAA batteries are the best way to go, even if you have to change them a little more often.

    generic is my favorite brand as you no doubt have guessed.

    brand loyalty is dead, long live brand loyalty.

    try diamondtron based tubes. approx same tech wtih the same excellent image quality.

    btw, sony also produces some crappy crt displays too. depends on the model(s).
