    and you would be fine if no linux or bsd distributions used even one iota of the DRM code.

    so basically you or your "friends" would spend a lot of time writing the code and virtually no one in the real world would even have a copy of the source anywhere on their systems.

    sounds good to me.

    DRM is no ones friend. and btw DRM is not synonimous with authentication and authorization systems which involve REAL security, so don't play that card.

    perhaps they can include a mini-mace dispenser or a sharp pointy object. or an ear piercing alarm that can only be turned off with a personal code (though they can always disassemble the batteries... perhaps if the batteries aren't easily replaced).

    quit whining, because that helps no one. take some initiative, lose a few "eyeballs" and have the testicles to go through with it.

    having to "fix" broken browsers is ultimately bad for everyone, even for those with aforementioned browsers.

    and in VERY LARGE LETTERS, say YOUR WEB BROWSER SUCKS, EITHER GET A NEW ONE OR YOU WILL HAVE A SHITTY EXPERIENCE ON MY SITE.

    make it clear to your users where the problem lies. even if they don't migrate, educate them.

    you ought to try and "fix" the installation first before reinstalling.

    i've heard that it will just reinstall the hal for a MP system and then you'll be good to go (after it replaces all the system files too). but it's defintely worth trying since you would potentially save a buttload of time reinstalling all your settings and programs.

    just as microsoft crushes competitors and startups, intel does the same on the hw side.

    just as evil as ms, maybe more so.

    too bad no one can do anything about it.

    if they were on an equal footing, intel would charge as much if not more for a lousier product.

    hell, they couldn't stay in business very long in the first place.

    and that's just for starters.

    you do know that IBM with sony have developed the cell cpu from the ground up for "Security" aka DRM.

    and i doubt we'll have less drm in the future... meaning they'll incorporate it into their other lines as "security enhancements".

    and the only way that macs won't have drm is if they cut themselves off from the internet... or didn't you know that drm is basically a way to force everyone who wants net access to use their handcuffs?

    shutting it off is easy... but eventually when most of the services and web sites , multiplayer games etc etc require the ability to read that you are using a "TRUSTED platform", and yours is off... they won't let you in.

    just one more reason to cut it off at the pass before it becomes ubiquitous. it's far more evil and disasterous than the divx fiasco of the mid 90s. this is far more reaching and more catastrophic.

    no, thats coming out later. it really is too bad amd is doing this. i think finally that there won't be any major cpu manufacturers who won't have DRM Inside!

    yes virginia, IBM/Motorola will join the DRM bandwagon too.

    DRM is not merely just to prevent copying of bs media files... although that will certainly appease those greedy ****suckers whose abbreviations end in AA...

    no it is much more devious and dangerous than that.

    i'll leave it to your imaginations and ingenuity to figure out what they're up to.

    remember, if you don't control it, someone else does.

    apparently, it's only 2x faster than a real hard drive...

    i guess when i wasn't looking hd manufacturers boosted hd performance 100x...

    or that because this product transfers thru the aging pci, it is limited to 133 (max theoritcal rate) MB/s.

    these should have been out ages ago and been only held back by the price of ram at the time. i see no reason why this isn't just a godawful cheap hack.

    it deserves no applaud. it only took about 10 years for someone to come out with a cheap gadget that could do this for the masses.

    it's twitch games you play online. otherwise most mmog type games and others that don't require sub 100ms latency play reasonably well.

    i've used satellite before and sometimes, given the right conditions it could even match cable/dsl. well it was that way when i first got it... then it degraded into hell and i finally had to give up my twitch games.

    maybe later they'll find our that the moon isn't really a dairy product as widely believed.

    that's what imagination is for.

    granted i know 99.9% of the gaming population has none but come on, you have to develop it sooner or later...

    and god, how the mini-games suck. i want to play the game, not a game in the game that is time consuming, boring and frankly a waste of development time.

    hell even FF 6 partly sucked because they started making it into a digital soap opera but the gameplay was still there... somewhat.

    the PS generation helped to cement craptastic games into the mainstream.

    moving to cd based media didn't help at all.. it only made FMV's waste time they could be developing a better game and deplete their small budgets. not to mention the insane load times. and they didn't help push down the price of games. so basically it was a big step backwards.

    it's cause their rage maxx chips wouldn't work in dual chip mode in nt/2000.

    they probably just didn't have the people to write appropriate drivers instead of it technically being impossible.

    still a bad decision.

    except that all video cards from r300 (9700) generation till now have that capability. except those bastards have been including support for encoding and decoding acceleration into all their product spec sheets up till now.

    and it's only just in the last week that we've had wmv HD decoding and a pathetic one at that. it is clearly above the 20% cpu usage (it uses 50-60% of a 2-2.5ghz a64) that we saw in "benchmarks" a few months back.

    they can suck it down and be john's bitch.

    no one has called them on this lying garbage and nvidia is in the same position.

    no, pci e is not like pci. each slot gets the full bandwidth of that particular speed (x1 gets 250MB/s and so on).

    it is light years ahead of pci in terms of capability.

    the cd audio standard is by itself completely without DRM (if you ignore the pathetic copyright flag that all software ignore). in order to hack on a drm scheme that's truly effective you would have to break compatibility with 99.99999% of all cd audio players in the world today.

    so you can see why this is a complete and utter failure. even on a windows machine... people use their own software to extract audio and write to new discs. and with autoplay turned off or disabled temporarily, this hasn't a chance in hell of working. even modestly smart computer users can break this in their sleep. and those who aren't can simply ask one of their more capable friends to do it for them.

    dvd-audio and sacd though on the other hand, those are worthless DRM-encumbed formats that are anti-customer. hopefully they'll never become more than a niche.. even if the RIAA were to be disbanded, DRM shouldn't ever be used by anyone.

    robbing us of our cultural heritage is high treason as far as i'm concerned.

    there is no such thing as a copyright protection system, no matter what anyone says.

    it's copy protection, not copyRIGHT protection.

    copyright protection is bribing congress, not a technological measure.

    it's a common mistake, given that 99.9% of the population have no idea what copyright really is. education is the best way to prevent our impending DRM-encumbered future by our copyright overlords.

    unfortunetly nintendo and ms are on the same bastard DRM bandwagon.

    although with nintendo and ms , they aren't part of the MP/RIAA like sony. though that is little comfort.

    as my old wise great great grandfather used to say, "fuck em all".

    we need some people in "business" who are on the customers side. the fact that business has all but learned to ignore its customers says a great deal about our world today. they obviously have left the old obsolete model of "needing customers" to survive...
