Errr... the 1.03 firmware uses kernel 2.6.12. With regards to not being able to upgrade the kernel - you can install debian on it (and no I don't mean as a chroot, although that is also possible). I've had none of these problems, although I only use nfs so the samba problem may exist - however, there is a howto called "bettersamba" on the wiki I mentioned above.

Have a look at the dns-323 wiki, specifically look for the fun_plug as that will add ssh functionality to the dns-323, and with ssh you can scp so no need to sftp... although you can run that also. There are also howto's on running debian in a chroot on the 323 so you can apt-get what you like.

As a note to anyone who's looking to use this somewhere where they want quiet - the dns-323 itself is very quiet... but try and find quiet disks also! I forgot to look in to this and baught some rather "clunky" seagates....

Seems like people are jumping on this as "linux bad!" where in fact the article is fairly neutral, Colinane has one opinion, Huger has another (and generally more accepted) opinion. Haydn.

With regards to liquid medicines mentioned above, they are allowed on if they're essential (e.g: insulin), however they must be tested for authenticity.

Actually there have been a lot of studies that have shown the opposite, for example have a look at the chart on page three of this pdf. You'll see that in this study the amount of deaths of the primary driver per million sold is higher in SUV's than large cars, midsize cars, minivans and imported luxury cars. Compact & subcompact are worse for the primary driver - obviously tin cans with a motor don't handle accidents well! Pickup trucks are the second worst and I'm suprised they're not more similar to SUV's. The worst is sports cars, possibly a combination of the historically bad handling of american sports cars and the fact that 150-200mph on a suburban road is usualy a bad idea!
