Does anyone else wonder why the links of some blurbs are where they are? For example, why put the link on "visual test" when that link points to an article about the test, not the actual test... it really annoys me.

  2. SunRays!! on Windows Thin Clients - Worth Making the Switch? · · Score: 1

I recommend phoning you local Sun office and ask for a demo & quote for SunRays. I used to work for Sun and all the desks had SunRays instead of(/aswell as) workstations, and I really liked them, even being a techie - although I did have a workstation to develop on also. Recently they also support Windows as the Server/Desktop if that's what you really want (personally, due to cost, I'd go for Solaris or Linux with a Windows like window manager - at least *Nix fans can change their own WM then aswell). I haven't tried all the possible thin client options, but SunRays will be damn hard to beat! Read the datasheet here.

On a general note, I'd recommend looking at all the options in detail and compare initial cost, TCO and usabilitiy before deciding.

My point is that Apple (Computer) is arguing that iTunes is not in the music industry which would be infringing on the previous agreement and would therefore be illegal (patent infringment is illegal!). Instead they're calling iTunes a "data transmission service" - i.e: "we're not dealing in music we're dealing in data". By this argument you should be able to transmit anything (illegal, copyrighted, whatever) and because you're only "transmitting data" get away with it? I agree that they wouldn't be breaking the same law, but there is still a law stopping each of the acts which could be legal using the same argument.

I want to know why they think transmitting data is not the same as selling cd's, cd's are afterall just data in a different format - Jobs himself has said it's the same in the past and yet this is not conidered to be in the music industry.

  14. Re:Too Right on Apple vs Apple -- Judgment Day · · Score: 1

Apple (Computers) are saying that iTunes is not music, it's an "electronic device" and therefore they are not going against the past agreement.

"Geoffrey Vos, QC, representing Apple Corps, had argued that call the download system just an electronic device was a "perversion" of the constraints laid down in the agreement between the two companies. He said that Mr Jobs, Apple's founder, had said that the downloading of music from the internet was exactly the same as buying an LP in the modern world."

So if I set up a service delivering illegal content, let's say naked pictures of your underage daugther, can I argue that it's just an "electronic device" and get away with it? I think not!

I along with most of the people I know use online delivery from supermarkets in the UK. They usualy give you a two hour window for delivery but are usualy sitting outside your door for about 15 minutes before that so there's no hanging around for you. The delivery only costs about £3-£5 depending on the time of day/week and they will put all the bags in your kitchen, although they won't put it away for you. Personally for £3-£5 I have better things to do than go to the actual shop.

The only down side to it is that occasionaly you will get a complete muppet who's in charge of finding alternatives for your products if they're not in stock. For example this week my other half requested a pack of 2 steaks, they were out of stock so they replaced them with 1 organic steak of the same size and about the same price! A friend also requested a large bag of pasta and received a cucumber!!! However you can tunr down any alterations they've made when they deliver - they notify you of them at that time.
