And nVidia does exactly this, they drop old models from their drivers (it isn't that bad, the last time it happened to me, it was really old, and the machine stopped being relevant for desktop usage a long time before). Still, I like the tranquility of mind; that's why I switched to ATI cards everywhere. It's good to have choice again. The work of Nouveau developers is impressive, considering the competing open source ati drivers got a lot of help from AMD.
Not everyone pays to have the latest Apple service pack. So a lot of Macs had support for Java applets. No matter how you want to distort the facts, the fix was there and it took Apple two months (and a lot of media coverage) to have them ship it.
Me too. Unless they kill prisoners just to get their organs.

LLVM/Clang is a very interesting project, it's sad it's gaining traction because of GPLv3 haters/fanboys/etc. and not because of its qualities. I fear their actions might even harm it, i.e. users and developers could stop being interested in it being the better compiler as long as it's "more open" (lol).
I've used Windows, Linux (with pretty standard stuff like openbox, kwin, etc.) and Mac OS X. My experience of actually working with it was the worst on Mac OS. If I wanted a non-free OS, I would take the one that has more software and hardware support, and a reasonable UI, i.e. Windows.
You tell us your friends rave about the iPad, and have more than one (WTF). Then you tell us you bought one and actually you don't have even used it yet, or didn't even tell us what you planned to use it for. Why event comment? Then you tell us that it's "what most people need", except it is besides the point. It's not because it can fulfill most usages that is the what people will prefer, nor that it is the most efficient. And why would people would prefer a pricey, limited device when cheaper, powerful devices are available? And that was my point: people revert to using the better tools after a few months. Then you tell us in the last part of your comment, which is more than the half of it, that you are sooo rich. Like someone would care.
It looks like you already feel stupid about your purchase. Congratulation, you're right on track for becoming a fanboy.
Except in that case most people will realize they don't have an use for one. At least that's my experience of iPad users. Past the "it's so cool" period, they pretty much only use it in the toilet. I don't think Apple will like this.
Product numbers are so 2011. I have the new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new iPad.

Given your multiple replies, you seem like a desperate fanboy too, willing to distort reality at any cost. The story didn't have "a few posts", it had only one. And it's not the first time I see the same user, in a story just published, being the only comment with a +5.
> Just read the posts and respond to the content therein.
I don't talk to fanboys, because they are incapable of logical reasoning. I actually enjoy this kind of troll stories, because fanboys are the number one argument against buying anything Apple. If Iever reply to a fanboy, it's for the other readers.
Hell, that's why my mom, who doesn't care at all about freedom or technical stuff, doesn't have a Mac: she told me they were so douchey and sectary and didn't want to be associated to them.
Actually, I know how Slashdot works. No need to act like a dickless asshole in your response though.

I don't think the hipsters are the ones criticizing Apple. And they won't until another brand gives them the ability to be smug assholes about "chosing" it.

Right.

> How many niggers read this website anyway?
A lot, and I heard most of them are gay.
When?
Actually they were already crying because it is no longer exclusive to iOS.
Even with normal use I doubt they will last long. Or stay clean.
Maybe they think it will help get them some money out of hipster's trust funds.
> Increasingly these novice users are spending all their computing time in iOS which is even less vulnerable.
iOS was vulnerable for *weeks* from a root exploit without a patch from Apple.
http://www.neowin.net/news/apple-sitting-on-ios-exploit-fix
Not what I would call secure.
> To be fair this is a Java exploit, and it's already been closed by Apple.
Yeah. Two months late. https://macviruscom.wordpress.com/2012/04/04/java-update-from-apple/
But Microsoft's hypervisor does not have that market share, even on Windows.

I had pretty much the same experience as this guy: http://wanderingstan.com/2009-12-11/65-reasons-mac-sucks
So why do we see so much people telling us they LOOOVE their macs online? Stockholm syndrome.
But it will be cooler!

So why did Apple show their benchmark?
Thankfully, no serious projects are hosted on GitHub.
Because NoSQL wasn't hipster enough.
And Nike, like Apple, definitely has enough sales margin to treat their workers better.
But then there's the other reason Apple is targeted: page views.
