  1. Re:Where are They? on War of the Worlds, Chocolate Factory Trailers · · Score: 1

Because the WofW film absolutely stinks. You should read the book if you haven't done so already.

The book was excellent - remembering that HG Wells wrote this in the 19th century - any film should be based on book, with Tripods instead of flying things.

Hopefully this remake won't be "usa saves the day" instead of humanity gets trashed and only survives because of bacteria.

The book is a timeless classic. Remember, written in the 19th century!!!

  2. Mafia on RIAA Co-Opts More Universities · · Score: 1

The RIAA are no better than the Mafia.

Unfortunately, due to corrupt US senators, RIAA bullying tatics won't end soon - there will only be more laws to support the recording criminals.. especially when RIAA buy them.

Thank God I can download music for free... being in Canada (It is *legal* to download music here).

  6. optimistic on Microsoft Patents The Task List · · Score: 1

Another optimistic attempt to patent something. This is why software patents are wrong.. MS just has to flex its muscle, and it'll be crushing competition by forcing competitors to remove functionality.

Borland implement this todo stuff in Delphi 4 ( I think ), which in turn was apart of a freeware / opensource plugin.

  10. A film on the proper version of W of the W? on War of the Worlds Remake · · Score: 1

Hope the film is based on the proper HG Wells version of the W of the Worlds - ie, the tripod martians, instead of the flying things in the 1950s abomination.

I've read the HG Wells book several times, it really is excellent. Unfortunately, the musical version, whilst the music is good, the story sucks. The Musical version was made by Jeff Wayne btw and was released in the 1970s (I think).

I'm really looking forward to this - if done correctly - classic sci fi.

    Rubbish.

The EU isn't afraid of fining European Companies. You just have to look in to Car manufacturers, i.e., BMW, Volkwagan etc.

Plenty of these firms have been fined *heavily* for anti competitive practices and price fixing.

If MS was a European Company, it wouldn't be let off the hook, as it would be seen to be crushing other EU software companies as well...

  12. lost? - not yet on Beagle 2 Probe Lands; No Signal Received Yet · · Score: 1

Everyone seems to think that Beagle is lost.

However, they weren't necessarily expecting a signal today. publically they say they aren't that worried -perhaps it needs more time to unpack itself... because of its low power capacity, it can only do one thing at a time.

However, it nothing has been recieved tomorrow - boxing day - then hopes start to fade.

If your using AAC, then you are fine in this suituation.

WMA - depends on the Music Store, for example, WalMart... if you format your hard disc / change your PC, you cannot play your music on your box. The music file is tied to a license which is downloaded the first time you play the music IIRC.

    They are corrupt.

Record companies (who the RIAA represent) screw record artists. Many upcoming artists do struggle and it doesn't help that record companies give as little royalities to the artists as they can. Oh, please don't say that its the artists fault, they need to negoite (spelling) better. For many, getting a record contract to begin with is a Godsend, something they don't want to lose.

From the levies put on CDRs, and income from iTunes Music Store etc, do the artists get a share of that money? I doubt it.

the RIAA is behaving out ragously - "bully boy" sums them up.

Oh, when Record companies have control of what music is played on what devices, they'll still expect that they get their levies on CDRs etc.

  22. Loose Cannon needs controlling on RIAA Sues the Wrong Person · · Score: 3, Insightful

If the US wasn't $$$ orientated towards its policies, the US government would have cracked down on the RIAA itself.

The RIAA is a lose cannon at the moment, it thinks it can do what it pleases, without any consequences for itself.

What takes the piss more, now that RIAA is cracking down on all these things, and with copy protected CDs - the RIAA still expects levies on CDRs etc to compensate for lost revenue. RIAA must be laughing - free money.
