    You decide to try it. If you don't tell anyone you have no risk of upsetting your customers or suppliers.

    most corporations have onsite representatives from various vendors for support and so this doesn't work in most cases. infact it's one of the reasons why vendors have support onsite - to know the internals of their clients.

    So as Linux pushes towards standardization effectively the open-ness is still there and available to you but is marginalized in the sense that once you make changes then you aren't standard anymore.

    I don't know what "open-ness" are you talking about. First of all open source isn't supposed to be open in that sense. And even if you want that kind of open ness if your changes apply to a lot of users they can always be incorporated in the standard distribution. If they are very specific then you are by yourself anyway. No "microsoft" can help you there. With open source atleast you can chang e the code yourself !!

    well.. duh! My point being movie as opposed to music is a group activity and ipod/mobile like devices aren't as useful for that unless you change your viewing habits.

    why do we have to take this to the oceans if you want to solidify the CO2. plants also convert CO2 into solid carbon and i don't see much difference between coral reefs and plants that way. The problem is more in the atmosphere anyway. I'm guessing the CO2 coral reefs would get is probably already dissolved in water not the CO2 someone's truck just emitted.

    GPL's philosophy is very different from BSD. Code under BSD license can be used in a closed source app for example. If GPL had to be changed into BSD, there wouldn't have been two such licenses in the first place. The idea here is to just improve upon or fix shortcomings of current GPL.

    The mouse supports a conventional grip and a grip with both hands. I already hate lifting a hand off of the keyboard, now I've to life both hands to use the mouse. That's bound to be annoying. Instead I'll continue doing what I do currently - I keep changing the hand I use for mouse after every few days. Works fine for me. No RSIs after doing this for 4 yrs now with about 8-10 hrs of daily computer use.
