MS just kinda "remixed" HTML etc. for IE and Frontpage!
On a more serious note this is very true... change is the nature of computers. Digital anything is very malleable and stagnation sucks.
You can never call it one or the other and be entirely correct. It's not black and white like that. Some scientists would argue that their line of work is an art form in itself. As has been mentioned before architecture can also be both simultaneously. A better question would be "Does it really matter?"
PS - I like to think of it as both... a good program requires both know-how and creativity (and it makes me feel intelligent and artistic simultaneously =D)
Exactly... everything is essentially a poison, it's just the deadly dose that varies. one drop if pure Botulinum toxin can kill 5,000,000 I believe, but the EXTREMELY diluted BOTOX is used cosmetically. Too much of anthing can and will kill you.
True, the Macs are several orders of magnitude easier (I haven't been lucky enough to toy around with an Amiga... too young I guess, and my Dad is an MS Nazi) But as I said, Apple hasn't sold itself as effectively or aggressively to the general public, and has thus remained a sort of niche product.
I'm going to be on vacation within sight range then... this just made my vacation! (and it's even *gasp* worth ripping myself away from a computer for a week!)
EXACTLY!!!
Ease of use is at least half of anythings usefulness. That's why Apple is so great. They realize that simply making a good product is only half the battle. All you GNU zealots who are blind to this OPEN YOUR EYES! You have to make something accessible to the average Joe, and sell it to him. I don't mean exchange of goods for money but social engineering. Can't you see this is why MS is so powerful? Bill Gates sold himself to IBM. He sold himself to the public. He also sold an easy product. DOS was a piece of junk, and windows hasn't improved on it much, but he has sold it nonetheless! GNU/Linux IS way more powerful than Windows, but as an end-user product it sucks! It has improved, but as a whole it sucks unless you know what you are doing (in which case it's the coolest thing since sliced bread) which most people don't want to. They already know Windows an that it is easier for them to keep on doing The Same Old ThingTM so why do anything else? Do what the user wants, not always necessarily what he needs and you will have a much more satisfied person. [/rant]
I claim ownership and patent to the entire process (and any processes in any way remotely related to) meta patenting. Thus, the USPTO is mine and you are all free to go home now.
Exactly... except here, the computer doing it isn't ground-breaking or amazingly cool. It's just done on a grander scale than what can be accomplished by hand. And about you examples - nobody said stupid patents were a recent thing
Fedora? Yuck. (I'm not posting anonymously because I read your sig) I dislike RPM based distros. It just seems messy and gives the user less control. Also, this too might just be me bu I have never had any luck with getting it to work all right. But take this with a grain of salt as it comes from an admitted control freak (and aspiring ruler of the universe) of a Gentoo user =D
umm, no. Fusion is like gold because it in theory can be up yo 50% efficient as opposed to 10% for fission and has virtually no fallout in bombs and little radiation given off in plants. plus fusion sounds WAY cooler than anything else (except maybe plasma or some sci-fi crap but that's just bs) and it releases a ton more energy
No, I think there isnt a "perfect" chess strategy... there is always a way to beat it. In game theory, optimum choice is the best possible thing you can do. tic-tac-toe suck because if you always make the optimum choice, you rule out losing. chess is far too complex to ever perfect, not just because of computing power but because chess perfection is nonexisent
Huzzah!!!
good is good, and bad is bad, regardless of the context. If Hamas donates to charities it is good, regardless of the fact that Hamas is a terrorist organization. If suddenly Gandhi went on a psychotic gun-down-everything-in-sight-and-then-some killing spree, it's BAD, regardless of the fact that he was a great man.

BURP is a project of a similar concept built off of BOINC. I'd link to it but I don't have it. Just Google it.

Math ... gotta love it.
Faster? Relative to who?

I'm sorry, I have a patent on that already. Can I have some royalty money =D?
You must be new here ... wow that's the second time i've said that today! I'm on a roll

What is this natural light you speak of???
OMG yes I loved that game ... build a city and watch the fusion plant meltdown or the microwave beam miss ... oops!
Mod parent up insightful ... How many of those broadband subscribers actually use, or even have the ability to use their connection?
Not impressive??? Think of all the money you could save on heaing in the winter!
Huzzah!
