  1. Re:Compactness of language????? wtf on Pro Perl Debugging · · Score: 1

Wrong and wrong. Perl is very compact, not only the language, but the interpreter as well. The actual interpreter is only ~1MB IIRC, and it's one of the only languages where programmers play 'Golf' and try to write a functional program in as few steps as possible. Fast, feature rich, and powerful, it's definitely not bloated.

My friend and I use OOo on his winbox and tried NeoOffice on his mac. We had used MS Office but decided to change over. It. Blows. Hideous, outlandish, slow, and buggy. Oh, it uses java too so its slower and buggier. Later we bought iWork and we were shocked at how good it is. If it gets a decent spreadsheet, db program, and other necessary tools it will be one hell of a suite. Pages and Keynote kick ass.

Freedom of religion is not freedom from religion. I can pray, read my Bible, or wear Christian motifs wherever I want, but freedom from religion would imply that if someone didn't want me to I couldn't. If I wanted to put a nativity scene in my front yard my atheist neighbors could demand that I put it away. Also, tax dollars are not spent on higher education. Tuition pays for higher education.

Actually that's Old Testament. Jesus also said to turn the other cheek, and part of his mission was to change/renew God's pact with man, including the rules. If you read throught the Bible and get the big picture you realize that there is no contradiction.

  7. Re:It depends upon the Church. on Kansas Anti-Creationism Professor Resigns · · Score: 1

The old testament is less relevant today than it was before Jesus. The whole point of Jesus was to renew God's pact with man and share God's blessing with the entire world. Basically, the Jew's blew it as God's chosen people with the strict rules, so God chose to allow anyone to become a believer. To summarize, the new testament said screw all the rules and formalities, and focus on your relationship with God.

You are right on target. Christian fundamentalism totally goes against Jesus' teachings. Most churches and Christian groups are against this sort of act and totally promote forgiveness. Condemning Christianity for this is like condemning Islam for terrorism. It's only the loud and proud, the vocal minority, and they are really a thorn in the side of true Christians/Muslims

Since Google technically got it first, they could get a patent and demand that MS pay royalties. Seeing as that is highly unlikely as there were sattelite imagery programs long before Maps or Virtual Earth, probably even before keyhole. (Google Earth's predecessor) Google isn't a patent whore, so this scenario is highly unlikely even if the patent would be granted. I'm wondering if maps of any type could count as prior art, but then again the 'digital' aspect would be included in a patent application.

However the threat from cybeterrorism is negligent. Even al-qaeda pamphlets acknowledge our vast technological superiority, and try to make it useless by simply opting for low-tech means. This is just another reason why legal restrictions on encryption are ridiculous and even harmful. Think 'If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns' only with crypto.
