    So hypochondriacs really will have virii, and UNIX elitists really will run the worlds fastest most reliable awesome number-crunchy stuff on all hardware from their 386SX to their ub3r power server. I can see a market here. Ego == OS. Most /.ers will run the most amazing machines on Earth!

    Of course, then again, that also means that AOL, Microsoft, and Amazon really will be all that. And Sony will have the perfect DRM. PLEASE KEEP ALL THOUGHTS AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. YOU ARE TOO PENSIVE NEAR THE COMPUTER.

    Here's the broken down answer:
    1. More bloaty software, larger filesizes (you thought 2D was bad, 4D is like that, but squared!)
    2. Longer dev time.
    3.Slower running software with higher requirements.
    4.Obviously a huge project that took forever to complete, requires a dedicated hard drive, and runs twice as slow as Doom 3 on top of the line hardware is an amazing new technology that all the kewl people have and if you don't you're lame.

    seriously, you're reading way too much into that, and no, seeing as our sight comes from three dimensions to two points in 3D space, we do have 3D vision. On a less serious note, your comment reminds me of what happens when you get stuck inside a rock on games.

    My Ubuntu experience has actually worked with everything _but_ my Atheros 5212 card (Netgear WG311T), but that might be a result of the stupid 128 bit password generated WEP. Great, clean distro though, pity you can't get Kubuntu CDs from shipit. I even got my Mac-Nazi CLI-phobe friend to use Kubuntu.

    I meant that iChat has had Jabber support for longer than GTalk has been around, so for all of GTalk's life it has supported Jabber.

    AIM has it's own protocol and only uses that. GTalk is just a Jabber client, a totally different (better, IMO) protocol. iChat, OTOH, is multiprotocol and can already talk with AIM or GTALK users, and always could.

    Apple does not make PPC cpus. IBM and Freescale do. Apple is switching to Intel, and they only chose PPC now because it performs better at the moment, at least in this configuration.

    you can already get high end GPUs, since ATI and Nvidia supply GPUs for Macs. Now that the high end Macs have PCI-e, they can use the same 7800s or Quadros a PC can. Their the graphics platform, so not releasing a high end card for OS X is unwise.

    How would an improved Nvidia 7800 leave ATI at the top??? Unless I'm mistaken (and I'm not) more RAM is better for a GPU, making the 7800 with 512MB insane. The only way this works out is if the GTX is the lower end 7800, but even then it's impressive to have 512.
