saddly i know the power useage of one data center that would not be reporting in.. lets put it this way.. based on the farm usage they turn off power to other floors in the building.. not to conserve power but because the main line coming into the building is their bottle neck
one of the points of carbon nano tubes is the structure which covers all bonds.. (some organic chem person fix this).. it doesn't exactly react with other things well.. as it has all the bonds it wants.. you would have to apply energy to break the existing bonds to cause it to rebond and and degrade the tube..
the idea of setting fire to your lungs to remove it doesnt' seem like a good solution
i alwasy thogught it would be cool if you could treat a disk image like a picture and to stagophy (sp).. and hide another fs ontop of an existing fs without impactingit.. maybe use ntfs and reserve blocks as system reserved - then have linux boot off the kernal and associated files hiding in the system reserved.. then have all your apps in linux hiding at the end existing windows exe's.. kinda like having a root kit installed that is a diffrent OS but that stays non existent in the host os/fs and the only mention is a wayof entering it from a boot loader.. then just have the boot loader check acouple regisers for serial numbers.. that way if it ever gets booted in a diffrent drive/controler it nukes the bootloader....
i look at it this way.. i have a box set up with media center (hey it does a good job).. the only TV i watch is what i records - if there is nothing recorded then i don't watch anything and go do something else..
if they block the recording.. that is fine with me.. it means i will never have something to watch and will go on with my life as if their channle never existed.
i will admit.. while my wife when she watchs stuff alwasy fastforwards through ads.. personaly the TV is back ground noise to what ever i am doing.. be it a book or a game or something.. so i while i pay enough attention to get the story the show is portraying.. when the ads start my brain shuts off.. so i don't fastforward them.. all they are doing by this is preventing people from seeing any of their content.. if that is what they want.. it is their own foot they are shooting.. not mine
personaly seeing how much micro payments have managed to leach off of me in the past 2 years.. subscription based games are not the big money maker..
while subscriptions helps a company understand the market and have a realive budget, they turn away gamers.
one game i play http://www.airrivals.net/ the idea is simple.. free to play.. and you can access all content without paying a cent.. but there is an item shop that is a cash shop.. and it is done as micro payments.. they do quite well and it isn't uncommon to see the servers so full at times that you can't even login.
when wow and city of hero's came out and other mmo's (eve).. charge me for the game and let me play for free or give me the game and make me pay to play it.. not both.. but from what i know i have and others have sinked into certian games.. the give free play free pay for little things over time.. makes them a but load more money off the people who have any money.. and the rest that don't have money wouldn't have paid to begin with BUT add a very large userbase for the paying customers to interact with.. large scale PvP is better than small.. so get the other people in there for free to make it more enjoyable for the paying customers..
what's wrong with Pidgin's interface? only problem i have had is that they need someoen to go through and relayout the options/prefrence area's. other than that it is quite nice - very clean and straight forward.

i live in NC.. if i sell something to someone next to me i have to charge my states sales tax.. that tax goes to fund my local/state government and provide me services such as police/fire/school/crap roads.. but if i sell to someone from NY over the phone (while they are in NY and i am in NC) then it is an interstate traffic.
that person (from NY) is responsiable for paying his local sales tax - i am not responsiable for collecting it and then sending it to NY.. that is his job as he is the one there..
any tax that would be added and requres the seller to collect would be an interstate tariff and that is the feds job not the states..
it isn't a legal loophole.. it is how taxes work.. NY is trying to say that because Amazon has affiliates (other companies that sell there goods) in NY that it means amazon has a pressence in NY and there for has to charge the tax.. but if that is true then amazon would also be required to file taxes there to (other than sales tax). it is nonsence that they would do this.. it would be akin to when i buy a car at a dealer that he doesn't have in stock and they have it shipped directly to me from detroit - that the auto maker would have to charge the sales tax and deal with it - when in all reality the local dealer should be the one doing that.
Amazon needs to point it's finger at the affiliates.. it really is their responsiability as companies in NY to charge sales tax to NY resedents and to file that with the NY government..

personaly what i think needs to happen with this is have Amazon track and charge the NY tax via the NY resellers - it really is the reseller/affiliates that are responseable for charging the tax and paing NY.. not amazon.. just because amazon provides nice easy tools to have the affiliate not have to deal with all the transactions doesn't mean it isn't the resellers fault..
a close example is websites that use say verisign for CC transactions - and then have orders drop shipped from supplyers.. it is still that websites owner who is responsable for obeying tax laws.. not verisign or the suppliers..

most mother boards get screwy when you get above 3.5GB of ram installed. like the gp said it is total.. base+extended+video.
something to try is IF your board supports it is PAE.. it allows the OS to address all the physical memory (up to the 4GB and beyond i belive) but it does some screw things in how it does it..
been so long that i can't remember exactly.. i just use it and move on - but feel free to read up on PAE.. i remember it being intresting.. but then again i have been up for 30 hours so intresting could be completely wrong

oh i understand.. i use a wrt54g at home.. but you can't knock someone or insult them for not going the cheap route.. everyone has their reasons..

it is the min size for me to feel safe in rough seas..
i know it can be done on much smaller boats.. but i wouldn't want to be the person doing it..

that is a crap provider.. one thing to learn is that the lower the cost the lower the care that is taken by the hosting facility.
