wow - i didn't know that the Dr Katz cartoon had such a big fanbase to warrant a live action movie. My head always hurt after watching it, with all the squiggly lines and all. So will Jeff Bridges be shaving his head or just going to wear a wig?
Its the same tired story about how big box retailers come in and destroy small town mom and pop businesses. Altough I do feel bad that businesses that have serviced the community for years are being forced to close, there is no one to blame but the antiquated business model that it continues to cling to.
In our capitalist market, its the consumer that decides where they're going to buy that bottle of shampoo, or the jar of honey, or the newest Grand Theft Auto game. Stop putting the blame on the retailers when its clearly the consumers in the driver's seat.
MS is willing to work with their competitors to allow their periherals and devices link and utilize the 360 - thus reinforcing MS' goal of the 360 the entertainment hub of a household. Gee, I guess MS is taking a *HUGE* risk by trying to increase the value of 360 by being so open with this system.
i can't tell if you were being serious or sarcastic - but i wouldn't necessarily say BT is useless. In legal software / content distro, it makes good financial sense to share the bandwidth over all the d/lers. but as for legally questionable content sharing - i think other methods are more sensible for users with cable / dsl connections.
its bizarre - I see this huge trend towards p2p for d/ling various content, but BT has never lived up to its promise to me as a cable modem user.
correct me if i'm wrong, but d/l speed is based on a ratio to u/l speed. being that i'm on cable, my max u/l is crap - which means my d/l is capped off at a snails' pace.
with usenet, I can d/l as fast as my provider allows me to so my sustained speed is much faster.
i guess if i'm on a T1 or greater, BT makes more sense. but for the average home based user, usenet seems like a much more appropriate method.
when the PSP was release here stateside - there was very little reason to purchase one - the launch games were mediocre and the hardware price was twice its nearest competitor.
fast forward to today, the game selection is much better and the movie support has been surprising as well. but thats not the true reason if i did purchase one.
its the availablity of homebrews. that and the huge amounts of pirated software thats available for it. its the same reason why the xbox sold well with the "computer power users"
300 bucks is easy to swallow if you know games can be gotten free....
Wow - must be nice that a company is so large that they can afford to lose a company that has purchased millions of chips in the past, and will potentially purchases millions of chips.
Must be especially nice given that the same customer you were selling to is now going to be buying a competing product from the biggest chipmaker in the world.
All this is some really good spin by IBM. In the meantime, I can't wait for a new gen dual boot Apple/PC machine.
I would buy a machine that would allow me to run both OS natively w/o sacrificing/performance. And I believe that this would appeal to a great many Mac and PC owners. I hope that this will truly be the case, but somehow I doubt Apple will let their hardware get watered down in this fashion -
Well this seems awfully pointless unless we GPS all children.
Doesn't the government have more important things to do, like regulate indecency on Satellite Radio or make sure Baseball is steroid free?

JE feels very linear, despite the effort spent by the development time devoted to the sidequests. Even if you were to complete every sidequest available, you would still wind up only clocking in at about 20 hours. For most harcore RPG gamers, this lack of gameplay hurts the title more than it helps.
Remember, the standard for RPGs have been set by games like the Final Fantasy series, the Star Oceans, and XenoGears/Sagas. Unfortunately short play RPGs like JE and Fable doesn't do anything but support the fact that American development houses still can't compete with Japanese ones.
...for the 20 hours it takes to complete. Whatever happened to RPGs that offered 80-100 hours of gameplay the first time thru? I'm not necessarily talking Xenosaga length, but certainly at least FFX long.

+1 insightful for the above post.

so let me get this straight -

600 kb/sec may be impressive to you, but I'm averaging 4500 kb/sec off my usenet reader....

gee - I bet those are "deathstars" drives they're using - I'd rather wait for a WD or a Maxtor with a 5 yr warranty.... /sarcasm
I've already seen the release of 2.0 to 1.5 firmware that is readily available with the other assorted trial software...

Like this is the first time MS has "borrowed" from Apple.
Anyone remember the claims against Windows 3.1?
...and in further news, windows 2000 is now 5 years old.

This is the first killer must have app for the PSP - assuming that the PSP can handle the emulator without any lag.

and this is the perfect example of why usenet / newsgroups are my best friend.
