I can't imagine how you and others in this country would function in life if an EMP went off.
I can't imagine how anyone can use "an EMP going off" as a basis for their argument.
An EMP what, exactly? If nukes start flying for real, our current way of life is over. And contrary to Oceans 11, there is no such thing as non-nuclear EMP generators powerful enough to do, well, anything to a power grid.
I don't see in your plan where you cover "burst water pipes flooding the house". That's the real fear of homeowners in northern climates.
Losing power in mild climates is annoying but no big deal. Losing power during the winter in a climate where the average HIGH temp is below 0 degrees F? That's not so easy.
If that's not enough, then move up to the 30 KW model. Kohler makes generators big enough to power your entire neighborhood if you are willing to buy it.
Kohler? Pfft! If you're gonna power the neighborhood, do it right!

5,000 cubic feed of natural gas per hour may get a tad spendy though...
Portables will have some inherent design engineering "issues" such as gas caps next to red hot mufflers.
Very true. I knew a guy who was a volunteer fireman up in rural Minnesota who got 3rd degree burns all over his face and neck when he accidentally splashed gas on a muffler while refueling a portable generator built like that.
I had it happen with the new version as well, it ground up my copy of Forza 2 into un-readability. After looking online I found the warnings about running with the console set upright.
I just shook my head and muttered a question about Bill Gates' mother's sexual orientation, then bought a cheap used copy of the game at the local pawn...er...Gamestop.
No software is free and spreading that misconception is harmful. These children look up to adults for guidance and discipline. I will research this as time allows and I want to assure you, if you are doing anything illegal, I will pursue charges as the law allows. Mr. Starks, I along with many others tried Linux during college and I assure you, the claims you make are grossly over-stated and hinge on falsehoods.
Glaring would be "there is only one recipe that gets you from 410 to 420 cooking and the mob that drops the ingredient needed for it only exists in one location in the world, one at a time".
Flip between a SD and HD broadcast of the same football game, the difference is stunning.
The difference is less obvious in things where the subjects are taking up 3/4 of the screen, like TV shows or movies. But when there's a lot of little things moving on screen at once the HD version is clearly better, to the point where SD looks like crap.
This looks like a train wreck from that trailer. Who knows, the trailer may not be representative of the movie, but yeah, Fast and the Furious XI: Jupiter Drift springs to mind.
The needle on my sarcasm detector wiggled a little but there. No, burn in has NOT been fixed with CRTs, it's still an issue inherent to cathode ray tubes.
As to the "moar pixelz" complaint - You bought a crappy LCD monitor. You can get a good quality bright 20" or larger 1680x1050 monitor for $200. Hell most companies don't even MAKE CRTs larger than 17" these days. You know why? CRTs are inferior technology that have been surpassed.
Dead pixels? I have 3 LCD monitors of various sizes and a 42" LCD TV, no dead pixels on any of them. And on a TV if you can actually see a single pixel you either are watching TV through a rifle scope or are sitting way too close.
Average enlisted or officer age? What's the average age of an aircraft carrier captain?
Enlisted average age is I believe around 19. There are a TON more enlisted personnel on a ship than officers. Officers are older, COs even more so. This cast seems too young, way younger than the TOS cast.
Shuttle flights run in the neighborhood of $400-500 million a pop. So far there have been 5 flights, the initial launch and 4 servicing flights. So that's $2-2.5 billion for the Hubble so far.
That doesn't include the operating expenses. So far the U.S. has put in between $5-6 billion dollars, the ESA another $600 million euros. Satellites ain't cheap.
Laaaand of the freeeeeeee; hoooooome of the braaaaaaave.

Solar + battery maybe?
Yeah, I thought the same thing, you can't worry about frozen pipes when you're dead from asphyxiation!

so how does it make sense to employ a relatively small number of people at a relatively high salary
Besides, I hear North Korea and Iran are looking for well trained rocket scientists.
You know... for their... SPACE... programs.
Or straw man?
The email in the article reads like BS.

That smells like trolling.
No, those are not glaring, those are minor.

Fretting over your achievement e-peen is minor.

No kidding. The original looks like it was taken with a cellphone camera.

And this comes from someone who made quite a bit of money writing games.
Warhammer Online developer who's sad that WOTLK is raping his precious game? Poor guy.
Procedurally generated dungeons? Good god imagine the chaos when people couldn't simply www.wowhead.com up a strategy for everything.
Yes, but "burn in" with LCD displays is correctable. This is from Apple, but applies to any LCD monitor: Image Persistence

You'd also have infinite mass... so there's that.
Actually, the next planned mission WILL be nuclear powered. NASA Mars Science Laboratory
