  1. This would be alot more interesting if... on Name-Your-Cost Radiohead Album Pirated More Than Purchased · · Score: 1

It was some small no-name band selling their music and "making it work". Of course a band like Radiohead - one of the last bands on the planet to get true artist development from a major label - can make digital sales to their large fanbase. It doesn't change that fact, however, that this sort of practice de-values music and makes the hill that much steeper for aspiring artists. I run a small indie label and it makes me sick for my artists every time I hear the slowly prevailing notion that music "is only for promotion - merch and performances are for profit". It is this mindset that leads people to believe that illegal downloading is OK seeing as it is just "more promotion" which will in turn help them when they tour... never mind the fact that serious touring is out of the question for many artists due to... you guessed it.. the fact that no one is paying for their music.

I work for a large digital marketing agency and one of our clients approached us about making a iPhone field application for their sales people. When we contacted apple about access to a SDK a while back I believe their basic position was that they were working on one, planning to release it but that they had not been able to get it locked down in time for release. To me it sounds like they would rather ship it and "add" a feature, than ship it noting that it is not yet feature complete.

A cousin of mine is a client manager at one of the larger call center corporations in the world and as I understand it, the call centers in Manilla are cutting deeply into Indian call centers. This is because the Phillapino call centers are only slightly more expensive than those in India and they can train Phillapino speakers to speak english with an accent that sounds only vaguely hispanic. Listen to the people on the phone next time you call Dell support (not my cousins company but in the same building).

From the writeup.... "Ironically, with its numerous pirated downloads available, the whole album has not leaked yet."

Well, i'm not saying I have the full album ;] - or that infact anyone does - but I do know that the full album has been leaked to one of the largest Pro Audio companies in the country on the employee level... A very cool way to impactfully leak a record as people in general love to promote and talk about music in the audio industry! And in most likelihood, also done as a thank you because people like Trent Reznor usually require a great deal of support with their high end studio systems. Or prototype models. Or discounts and sponsorships...

It is an undeniable and documented trend that african's have more fast twitch muscle than europeans. This is neither better nor worse - it is simply an evolution suited to different situations. It also should ne said, that this is not a rule, but once again a trend. It is a difference and there are multitudes of these differences everywhere. Should we ignore positive or neutral differences so as to allow ourselves to ignore culturally 'negative' differences as well? It's not saying women aren't as good as men at math universally and totally. It's entertaining the notion that perhaps as collective biological groups women on average are not as good as men at math. There is a large difference between that sentiment, and a blanket statement.

While the do not call list has been successful for the general population, there are alot of peripheral issues surrounding the do not call list that most people have not taken into account. Telemarketing is one of the few industries where people with subpar education (in some cases not even GED equivolent) could make 7-15 dollars an hour. The do not call list has resulted in an estimated 1.2 million jobs lost, many of them these poorly educated citizens who need them most. Also, it IS something like 7,000 dollars a month to license the Do Not Call database for legal calling. What does this mean? If Joe's muffler just moved into town and wants to do some yellow page canvasing to promote their special grand opening deal they are calling illegaly. Virtually any small business calling out to area consumers is breaking a law and subject to ridiculous fines. The upshot for telemarketers however, is that they are finding those not on the list are more receptive to sales - and telemarketing to latino comunities (in this case read spanish speaking) is up as well. The reason being that never before has the Latino community been subjected in any huge way to national corporate marketing via the telephone - they aren't quite jaded yet. As a result are currently the most successful population to market to.
